Young siblings die after pulled from neighbor's pool on Long Island
CBS New York reports a makeshift memorial is growing outside the home of Ralph Knowles, 5, and Sharon Knowles, 7. The two died Sunday after they were pulled from the waters of a neighbor's uncovered above ground pool in Central Islip, police said.
Sharon Knowles, 7, and Ralph, 5, were pulled from the above-ground pool Sunday, shortly after police received a 911 call from the childrens' grandmother saying they were missing. That set off an intensive search.
After a police search with dogs and helicopters, five-year-old Ralph Knowles and his seven-year-old sister Sharon Knowles were found submerged in a backyard pool on Half Mile Road. The home where the children lived and the home with the swimming pool share a backyard fence.
Officers jumped into the 4-foot-deep pool and discovered the unconscious bodies of Ralph Knowles and Sharon Knowles. The brother and sister were taken to Southside Hospital, where efforts to resuscitate them failed, Fandrey said.
