  • Method And Apparatus For Establishing A Communication Connection

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20140024370, Jan 23, 2014
  • Filed:
    Jul 17, 2012
  • Appl. No.:
    13/551460
  • Inventors:
Abhishek Sen - San Jose CA, US
Shivesh Makharia - Santa Clara CA, US
  • Assignee:
    APPLE INC. - Cupertino CA
  • International Classification:
    H04W 60/00
    H04W 88/02
  • US Classification:
    4554351, 4555501
  • Abstract:
Method and apparatus for establishing a connection between a device (e.g., a mobile device such as a telephone or tablet) and a communication network (e.g., a telephone/data service provider's network). The communication network may adhere to a mobile communication standard such as 3GPP (3Generation Partnership Project) LTE (Long Term Evolution). When the user device attempts a connection to a default access point name or APN (e.g., via an Attach Request message), and that access point is unavailable, instead of rejecting the request (e.g., with an Attach Reject message) the communication network identifies an access point that is available and returns an Attach Accept message that identifies the available access point. After the connection is established, if the default access point becomes available, the network may subsequently detach the user device from the network, but specify that the device should re-attach (to the default access point).
  • Adjusting Connection States Of A Mobile Wireless Device

  • US Patent:
    20130331057, Dec 12, 2013
  • Filed:
    Jun 7, 2013
  • Appl. No.:
    13/912992
  • Inventors:
Shivesh Makharia - Santa Clara CA, US
Longda Xing - San Jose CA, US
  • International Classification:
    H04W 76/02
  • US Classification:
    4554041, 455450
  • Abstract:
Methods, apparatuses and computer readable media are described that adjust connection states between a mobile wireless device and a wireless network upon detection of a connection state synchronization failure. After an interruption of a connection between the mobile wireless device and the wireless network, the mobile wireless device responds to a paging message received from the wireless network to establish a new radio resource control (RRC) connection or to re-establish an RRC connection with the wireless network, when an internal state of the mobile wireless device an at least a portion of contents of the paging message indicate the connection state synchronization failure.

  • Restrictions On Transmissions Of Control Plane Data With Carrier Aggregation

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20170222784, Aug 3, 2017
  • Filed:
    Dec 30, 2016
  • Appl. No.:
    15/395552
  • Inventors:
    - Cupertino CA, US
Shivesh Makharia - Santa Clara CA, US
  • International Classification:
    H04L 5/00
    H04W 72/04
    H04L 1/18
    H04W 24/10
  • Abstract:
The disclosure describes apparatus and methods for communicating control plane data with a mobile device in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network employing carrier aggregation. A network apparatus, such as an enhanced NodeB (eNodeB) or a mobility management entity (MME), can be configured to evaluate a measurement report (MR) received from a mobile device for one or more radio frequency (RF) conditions associated with a primary network cell and one or more RF conditions associated with a secondary network cell. Then, based on the evaluation, the network apparatus can determine to communicate the control plane data with the mobile device via the primary network cell, the secondary network cell, or both. The control plane data can correspond to non-access stratum (NAS) information, radio resource control (RRC) information, or a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) retransmission of previously transmitted control plane data.

Johnson O. SEBENI - Cupertino CA, US
Sree Ram KODALI - Cupertino CA, US
Sreevalsan VALLATH - Cupertino CA, US
  • International Classification:
    H04W 36/30
    H04L 1/18
    H04W 72/04
    H04L 1/00
    H04W 72/08
    H04W 52/36
  • Abstract:
Apparatus, system and methods for evaluating link quality within a cellular system. A user equipment (“UE”) is connected to a network, wherein the UE communicates data to the network on an uplink (“UL”) link. The UE determines a requested buffer size for a UL communication, determines a transport block size for the UL communication based on a primary set of allocation parameters, and compares the requested buffer size to the transport block size to determine if a data rate for the UL communication satisfies a threshold. When the data rate satisfies the threshold, the UE identifies the UL link as a good quality link and sends acceptable link quality feedback to the network. When the data rate does not satisfy the threshold, the UE performs a further action to test a quality of the UL link.

  • US Patent:
    20160080995, Mar 17, 2016
  • Filed:
    Sep 15, 2014
  • Appl. No.:
    14/486876
  • Inventors:
    - Cupertino CA, US
Shivesh Makharia - San Jose CA, US
  • International Classification:
    H04W 36/14
    H04W 76/02
  • Abstract:
In some embodiments, a user equipment device (UE) may be configured to perform handover of a communication session from a first packet data network (PDN) to a second PDN. The UE may include a radio and processing circuitry coupled to the radio and configured to interoperate with the radio. The radio may include one or more antennas for performing wireless communications over at least a first packet data network (PDN) (i.e., packet-switched network) and a second PDN. The UE may be configured to communicate over the first PDN according to first context information that was assigned to the UE and initiate a handover operation from the first PDN to the second PDN. In response to initiating the handover operation, the UE may communicate over the second PDN using the first context information for at least a first time duration.
