Abstract:

The present invention relates to allergy vaccines and methods of treating and/or preventing asthma, and allergic conditions. The invention is based on the discovery that inhibiting the ligand/receptor interactions involving, e. g. , IgE, IL-3, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-10, IL-13, interferon-alpha, histamine, leukotriene, and their respective receptors, inhibits production of IgE thereby treating or preventing such diseases or conditions. Competitive inhibition of such receptor/ligand interactions is accomplished by immunizing a human or veterinary patient with the interleukin, interferon-alpha, histamine, leukotriene, their receptors, in any combination. Also, the invention relates to inhibiting receptor/ligand interactions involved in IgE production by competitively inhibiting such interactions by administering antibodies to the ligands, receptors, or both, as well as by administering analogs of the receptors (e. g. , soluble receptors not associated with a cell).

The present disclosure concerns the treatment of a patient with autoimmune disease, including AIDS, by neutralizing, removing or inhibiting different types of interferons, tumor necrosis factor, HLA class II antigens, IgE, and other pathological factors and/or their receptors, as well as neutralizing, removing or inhibiting autoantibodies, including antibodies to target cells, CD4 cells and DNA. Abstract:

A method for treating patients with renal failure includes administering to them an effective amount of antibody or of a functional equivalent thereof to at least two of urea, creatinine, tumor necrosis factor alpha, interferon gamma, interleukin 6 and interleukin 1 beta. Soluble cytokine receptors also can be employed. The method can be used as a supplement to or as partial or complete replacement for dialysis. A pharmaceutical composition includes antibody or functional equivalent thereof to urea, creatinine, or both; antibody, functional equivalent or soluble cytokine receptor to tumor necrosis factor alpha, interferon gamma, interleukin 6, interleukin 1 beta or any combination thereof The composition can be included in a kit.
