Abstract:
An apparatus including a processor coupled to a memory resides in a location call filtering center and cooperates with a gateway mobile location center and a mobile switching center to process a communication signal, based on the geographical location of a communication device , such as a mobile telephone. The processor accesses a user location filter database stored in the memory which contains a set of subscriber conditions/preferences that may be used to identify a processing operation to be performed on the call. The processor further operates as an Internet web page server to afford mobile subscribers Internet access to the user location filter database so that the mobile subscribers may enter and/or edit the set of conditions/preferences stored in the memory.

Abstract:
A method, apparatus () and system () for altering the playback speed of recorded content () to match a target syllable rate is provided. A user may enter a desired, target playback syllable rate through a user interface (), such as a keypad or touch screen. Alternatively, the target playback syllable rate may be determined from identification of the source of the recorded content (). An actual playback syllable rate () associated with the recorded content () is then determined. The recorded content () is then altered, by time domain harmonic scaling in one embodiment, such that the altered playback speed () substantially matches the target playback syllable rate. In so doing, a listener is able to receive recorded content () at a faster or slower rate than it is produced. Elements that may compromise the intelligibility of the recorded content (), including distortion (), background noise (), ambient noise () and audible intonations (), may be measured such that the target playback syllable rate may be compensated.

Abstract:
An ankle fusion device has a proximal portion generally aligned with a first longitudinal axis. The proximal portion includes a proximal end and a first fastener hole. The proximal portion has an arcuate curve such that the proximal end is spaced a distance from the first longitudinal axis in a first direction. The first fastener hole is configured to receive a first fastener along a first fastener axis. A distal portion of the ankle fusion device extends to a distal end from the proximal portion along a second longitudinal axis. The second longitudinal axis is angled in second and third directions relative to the first longitudinal axis. The second direction is perpendicular to the first direction and the third direction being opposite the first direction. The distal portion includes a second fastener hole configured to receive a second fastener along a second fastener axis.

Abstract:
A method for operating a core router that provides multiple levels of service to packets is provided. The core router receives packets from input links, and accepts or drops them based on the level of congestion in the outgoing link it is destined for. The level of congestion is determined by comparing the queue length of the output queue of the link with a configurable maximum queue length, and by comparing the rate at which the queue length is increasing with a configurable maximum rate of queue length increase. A threshold value is computed based on the above measurements, and this value is updated periodically based on the level of congestion in the system.
Method For Optimizing The Use Of Shared Communication Channels And Dedicated Communication Channels In A Communication System
A method for optimizing the use of at least one shared communication channel and at least one dedicated communication channel in a communication system. First, communication of a first plurality of communication traffic is allocated to a dedicated communication channel. Similarly, communication of a second plurality of communication traffic is allocated to a shared communication channel. Next, a change is detected in one or more channel performance metrics of the shared communication channel. When the detected change is a degradation in the one or more channel performance metrics of the shared communication channel, communication of at least one of the second plurality of communication traffic is re-allocated to the dedicated communication channel. When the detected change is an improvement in one or more channel performance metrics of the shared communication channel, communication of at least one of the first plurality of communication traffic is re-allocated to the shared communication channel.
Method And Apparatus For Conveying Data Packets In A Communication System Without Using Communication Device Timers To Trigger Data Retransmission

International Classification:

US Classification:

Abstract:
A communication device (106) transmits a data packet at a first transmission time or during a first transmission time period to a data controller (116). The data controller determines an earliest transmission time or time period of data packets to be acknowledged and transmits an indication that only data packets transmitted after the earliest transmission time or time period will be acknowledged. The communication device then determines whether the data controller is indicating that only data packets transmitted after the first transmission time or time period will be acknowledged. When the data controller is indicating that only data packets transmitted after the first transmission time or time period will be acknowledged, the communication device retransmits at least a portion of the data packet and thereby performs timerless error recovery.

Abstract:
A communication device (200) supporting transmissions provides transmission related device temperature control. The communication device (200) has a particular portion (244) subject to an increase in temperature resulting from the transmissions. A message is provided for transmission by the communication device (200) which has a data communication protocol (224) governing message transmission. Temperature control is effected by determining temperature information for the particular portion (244) of the communication device (200) and by modifying operation of the data communication protocol (224) based in part on the temperature information.

Abstract:
A method for providing adaptive modulation in a radio communication system employs a plurality of data modulation techniques (207). A two-way communication unit (100) automatically selects (318) from amongst the plurality of data modulation techniques (207), and uses the selected data modulation technique to transmit (308) data.

Liberal Democrat MP Stephen Gilbert believed the proposals struck the right balance between "protecting religious freedoms and extending legal equality to the LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender] community".
Thanks, W Stephen Gilbert, I've been trying to forget that lyric for 30 years (Letters, 7 February). The same song also includes the couplet "Some of us belong to the stars, we fly around in orbit / We soak up the wisdom of life, while others can't absorb it." I think it's safe to say that, on this occasion, Don Black was lucky in his collaborator.
