Abstract:

A microprocessor-based apparatus is provided for determining odor levels in gas streams. The apparatus includes a mixing chamber for mixing gas from a gas supply to be tested with air to form a gas-air mixture. The mixing chamber includes a gas inlet port through which the gas is received, an air intake port through which the air is received, and an outlet port through which the gas-air mixture leaves the mixing chamber. The apparatus includes a flow control valve that can be connected to the gas supply to enable a user to selectively adjust the flow rate of the gas from the gas supply to the apparatus. The apparatus also includes a mass flow sensor positioned between the flow control valve and the gas inlet port of the mixing chamber for measuring the mass flow rate of the gas flowing into the mixing chamber. A motorized fan is positioned in a conduit connected to outlet port of the mixing chamber for drawing the gas-air mixture out of the mixing chamber to a location where it can be sniffed by the user to detect odor. The apparatus also includes a tachometer for measuring the rotational speed of the motorized fan and a microprocessor controller responsive to signals from the tachometer for controlling the rotational speed of the motorized fan such that it is maintained at a substantially constant speed. The apparatus can be linked to a personal computer to enable data to be exchanged between the personal computer and the apparatus.

Abstract:

A system for injecting chemicals, e.g., odorants, from a chemical supply into a conduit or container includes three primary components, a pump for injecting the odorant, a metering device, and a programmable controller. The controller is preferably powered by a solar panel to facilitate use of the system in remote areas for long periods of time. A removable data carrier, such as a memory module, is connected to the controller to collect odorant system event data. The data carrier is removable from the controller and the data therein may be downloaded into an auxiliary audit computer for generation of summary audit reports. The system precisely monitors how much odorant is used per pump stroke and insures that the odorant injection rate remains constant irrespective of environmental or equipment variations which might otherwise cause inaccuracies in the measurement of odorant usage data and/or the fluctuation of the odorant injection rate.

A liftarm assembly having: i) a mounting socket and base assembly for attachment to a support; ii) a vertically extending mounting tube non-rotatably but pivotably secured to the mounting socket and base assembly; iii) a sheave mounted in the mounting tube for rotation about a horizontal axis wherein the sheave projects laterally out of the mounting tube; iv) a tubular metal liftarm mounting in the mounted tube for rotation about a vertical axis wherein the tubular liftarm is devoid of internal pulleys and external braces and other protuberances; v) the tubular liftarm including a lower vertically extending linear portion for insertion into the mounting tube, a laterally extending cantilevered upper portion, and an intermediate portion joined to the upper and lower portions by smooth curves; vi) a fitting coupled to the outboard end of the cantilevered upper portion and including a sheave journaled for rotation about a horizontal axis; vii) a load line having its outboard free end secured to the cantilevered upper portion of the liftarm and it opposite inboard free end reeved about the sheave in the fitting, through the tubular metal liftarm and mounting tube, about the sheave in the mounting tube, and laterally out of the mounting tube for attachment to a suitable winch with the portion of the load line intermediate its point of attachment to the upper portion of the liftarm and the fitting sheave defining a bight; and viii), a sheave block and support hook suspended from the lower end of the bight.
