  • System For Efficient Broadband Data Payload Conversion

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6603776, Aug 5, 2003
  • Filed:
    Apr 5, 1999
  • Appl. No.:
    09/286211
  • Inventors:
Jeff G. Fedders - Westminster CO
Winston K. Mok - Vancouver, CA
Stephen Richard Peck - Boulder CO
Floyd Craig Wolverton - Westminster CO
  • Assignee:
    Lucent Technologies, Inc. PMC-Sierra, Inc.
  • International Classification:
    H04J 322
  • US Classification:
    370476, 370539
  • Abstract:
The system for broadband data payload conversion functions to efficiently convert broadband data between two sets of data formats. In particular, this software system converts between AUG/AU3/VC3 clear channel payloads and AU4/VC4/TU3/VC3 clear channel payloads in an efficient manner, which also complies with the industry standard data formatting requirements. The present system implements an efficient data format conversion process that uses existing circuitry and can effect the data format conversion with only a few bytes of delay instead of an entire frame of delay as is typically found in existing systems. This is accomplished by manipulating the format conversion to simplify the format conversion process.
  • Switch Adjunct Integration Arrangement

  • Filed:
    Mar 29, 1991
  • Appl. No.:
    7/677546
  • Inventors:
Randy L. Applegate - Westminster CO
Ricky L. Overmyer - Golden CO
Stephen R. Peck - Boulder CO
John B. Sharp - Denver CO
Nathan E. Wiscombe - Broomfield CO
  • Assignee:
AT&T Bell Laboratories - Murray Hill NJ
  • International Classification:
    H04M 342
    H04M 164
  • US Classification:
    379212
  • Abstract:
A switch-adjunct integration device uses multiple line appearances of one or more digital telephone lines to gather information on calls destined for an adjunct voice-mail system, to transfer the calls to analog phone lines leading to the voice-mail system, and to detect call completions. Call completion is detected by bridging some of the line appearances to the analog phone lines and monitoring the bridged line appearances for call status reported thereon by the switch. Call-related information, including call completion, is reported from the integration device to the voice mail system over a control link. The analog phone lines are connected to the voice mail system through switch relays on the integration device. The integration device momentarily opens a relay when it detects call completion on the connected analog line to further enhance call-completion signaling.

  • Abstract:
An arrangement for enclosing a fluid includes a circuit board and an enclosure member. The circuit board includes an electronic component secured thereto. The enclosure member is secured to the circuit board such that the enclosure member and the circuit board cooperate so as to create a fluid tight barrier of a compartment defined by the circuit board and the enclosure member.
  • Apparatus For Insertion Of Overhead Protocol Data Into A Switched Data Stream

    view source
  • US Patent:
    54167728, May 16, 1995
  • Filed:
    Aug 20, 1993
  • Appl. No.:
    8/109766
  • Inventors:
John S. Helton - Louisville CO
Stephen R. Peck - Boulder CO
Floyd C. Wolverton - Westminster CO
  • Assignee:
AT&T Corp. - Murray Hill NJ
  • International Classification:
    H04Q 1108
  • US Classification:
    370 66
  • Abstract:
An apparatus that provides two different sources for generating the bytes to be inserted into frames of data being communicated through a switching unit. This apparatus allows for the insertion of variable, programmable data patterns in multiple frames. Under program control of a controller, the first source can selectively write data into designated time slots within designated rows and designated frames of multiple frames. Different data can be inserted into different rows of the same column of each frame. In addition, different data for different frames can be inserted into different rows of the same column. Also, the same data can be inserted into designated a row and column of a designated frame. The second source can write data into every row of a designated column of every frame.
  • Plural Communication Channel Protocol Support Systems

    view source
  • US Patent:
    45340234, Aug 6, 1985
  • Filed:
    Oct 7, 1983
  • Appl. No.:
    6/539813
  • Inventors:
Stephen R. Peck - Boulder CO
John B. Sharp - Denver CO
  • Assignee:
AT&T Information Systems Inc. - Holmdel NJ
  • International Classification:
    H04Q 1104
  • US Classification:
    370 58
  • Abstract:
Protocol support and message buffering circuitry is used to transmit call status, control and terminal management information bidirectionally over associated conductor pairs as signalling messages between a system processor and a phone and/or terminal served by the system and connected to each conductor pair. This information is transmitted serially in a modified HDLC format as a one bit signalling field of a multiplexed data frame. At each transmitting end, the message information is converted from a parallel to a serial format, transmitted serially as the signalling bit of successive frames, and reconverted to parallel at the receiving end. Ports terminate the system end of the conductor pairs and are mounted four to the board. Each board contains circuitry, such as registers and the like, common to the signalling message protocol support and message buffering circuitry of all four ports. The processor scans, reads and writes these common registers via the I/O bus to determine the status of each port and to exchange messages with the remote phones and terminals served by the ports.
  • Alternate Routing Arrangement

    view source
  • US Patent:
    46791892, Jul 7, 1987
  • Filed:
    Nov 27, 1985
  • Appl. No.:
    6/802573
  • Inventors:
Jeffrey J. Olson - Boulder CO
Stephen R. Peck - Boulder CO
David P. Seaton - Boulder CO
  • Assignee:
American Telephone and Telegraph Company - Holmdel NJ
AT&T Information Systems, Inc. - Holmdel NJ
  • International Classification:
    H04Q 1104
    H04J 324
  • US Classification:
    370 60
  • Abstract:
Improved alternate routing in a packet switching system is provided by inserting alternate routing control information into each packet and by storing alternate routing information at each network node. The stored information at each node includes a list of the available paths extending from the node towards all other nodes together with a list of available algorithms that can be used to select one of the available routes. The alternate routing control information in each packet contains postage information specifying the maximum number of nodes through which the packet is to travel. The alternate routing control information also includes a destination node index code identifying the destination node. The destination node index is used as address information by each node receiving a packet to read out the stored information at the node identifying the available paths and the algorithm to be used in selecting one of these paths for use in transmitting the packet towards the destination node. The identified algorithm is then executed to select the path to be used.
  • Selection Of Transmission Facilities Using Optical Wavelength Division Multiplexing

    view source
  • US Patent:
    52125785, May 18, 1993
  • Filed:
    Oct 2, 1991
  • Appl. No.:
    7/770057
  • Inventors:
Gary J. Grimes - Thornton CO
John S. Helton - Louisville CO
William K. Honea - Denver CO
Stephen R. Peck - Boulder CO
  • Assignee:
AT&T Bell Laboratories - Murray Hill NJ
  • International Classification:
    H04J 1402
  • US Classification:
    359124
  • Abstract:
A duplicated transmission system in which two optical wavelengths are utilized on each of a pair of optical links with one optical wavelength communicating data and the other optical wavelength communicating a signal designating an active optical link of the pair. Each of the optical links is terminated on a transmit unit and a receive unit. The two transmit units determine which of the optical links is the active optical link, and each of the transmit units then transmits a signal on the second wavelength of the terminated optical link indicating this decision. The second wavelength of the active optical link designates that it is active, and the second wavelength of the standby optical link designates that it is the standby optical link. Upon reception of the information on the second wavelengths, the receive units both select the active optical link.
