Interests:
Dr. Pollak has a range of experiences and interests. He started out as a young Chicago wire service reporter (police/homicide). He then joined the Congressional Budget Office as a federal budget analyst costing out the "Reagan Revolution." A research fellowship in Africa followed, leading to work on third-world issues (Africa/Asia). His agricultural systems work sparked a deep interest in conventional and molecular bio-technologies, and the impact of biologic variation on scientific data management. This, in turn, led to a senior research position in bioinformatics at the University of Wisconsin, and eventual PhD. Along the way, Dr. Pollak became keenly interested in the history and dynamics of technological innovation and disruptive change; and the technical challenge of tracking biologic variation in scientific research and clinical practice. He also developed two UK-based IT consulting businesses, and then co-founded MIQS, Inc. in the early 1990's.
