Abstract:
State apparatus, and an associated method, controls a packet data service in a radio communication system in which a mobile station is operable. Control architecture is represented by operational states in which the mobile station is caused to be operated includes a control hold power save substate and a virtual traffic substate. Subsequent to a selected period of communication inactivity, the operational state of the mobile station in caused to be transitioned into a control hold power save substate in which a dedicated control channel remains allocated to the mobile station. If packet data is subsequently to be communicated by the mobile station, the channel is readily available to the mobile station to communicate the packet data thereon. When, conversely, subsequent to a period of communication inactivity, operation of the mobile station is caused to be transitioned into the virtual traffic channel substate, a communication channel is released from its allocation to the mobile station.
Method And Apparatus For Power Control On A Common Channel In A Telecommunication System

US Classification:

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for power control on a first channel that is shared by multiple mobile stations transmitting to base stations in a telecommunication system. An initial mobile station transmission power level is set on the first channel that is shared in the random access mode. The transmission power level may be determined based on a desired performance level of the first channel. The method and system may be efficiently applied on a channel that carries a transmission in one or more bursts, with each burst including the same or a varying number of frames of varying sizes. The method and apparatus utilizes a second channel that is shared by multiple mobile stations for transmitting the power control signaling from the base stations to the mobile stations.

Abstract:
An M-ary signal constellation within an N-dimensional space is defined, preferably such that each of the M symbols reside upon the surface of an N-dimensional sphere and such that a minimum distance between symbols is maximized. N orthogonal functions are used as the bases for representing the N-dimensional symbols for transmission. Orthogonal functions exhibiting orthogonality in frequency, time and/or space are also described for this purpose. Furthermore, conventional QAM symbol encoding may be used to represent the N-dimensional symbols, thereby facilitating the use of conventional modulation techniques. In this manner, higher dimensional modulation schemes may be realized.
Apparatus, And Associated Method, For Reporting A Measurement Summary In A Radio Communication System
Apparatus, and an associated method, for generating a message summary field. The message summary field indicates whether 802. 11-formatted data packets are communicated upon a frequency range to which a mobile station operable in an IEEE 802. 11 radio communication system is tuned. An indicator indicates whether an 802. 11 data packet is detected. And, a reporter generates a measurement summary which includes a measurement summary field populated with a value indicating the determination. Subsequent analysis of the value of the field of the measurement summary is utilized pursuant to dynamic frequency selection operations.
Method And Apparatus Using Coordinate Interleaving To Increase Diversity In A Mimo System

Nokia Corporation - Espoo
International Classification:
H04B 7/02
US Classification:

Abstract:
A method to increase diversity in MIMO fading channels interleaves coordinates of complex symbol(s) in a transmission frame after encoding and modulating. Specifically, an input signal is encoded and modulated into a codeword, jointly across at least two pipes, said pipes having space, time, frequency, or other nature, wherein the codeword spans a frame and is defined as at least one complex symbol whose complex values are all those to be transmitted during all channel uses covered by the frame. Each of the complex symbols have a first and second coordinate. After modulating, which may be combined with encoding in a signal space encoder, the coordinates are interleaved. In modulation, the complex symbols (typically two dimensional) may arise as elements of a multidimensional (typically greater than two dimensions) signal constellation, in which case those multidimensional constellation coordinates are the ones that are interleaved in the frame. The frame carrying the interleaved coordinates is transmitted by the first and at least second antennas, possible opposed sub-frames of the overall frame being transmitted separately by opposed antennas. A coset selector is used in some embodiments to maximize a minimum Hamming distance, and/or a minimum Euclidean distance, between coordinates within a coset to control diversity and/or coding gain.

Abstract:
A system, apparatus and method for utilizing a first communication interface(s) to initiate communications via a second communication interface(s). Auxiliary communication information is communicated from an initiating device to a target device(s) via a first over-the-air (OTA) communication interface. In response to the auxiliary communication information, an auxiliary communication module is activated at the target device for communication via a second OTA communication interface. The target device may then communicate with the initiating device and/or other devices via the second OTA communication interface.
Mobile Station Control States Based On Available Power
Steven D. Gray - Dallas TX George Fry - Coppell TX
Assignee:
Nokia Mobile Phones Ltd - Espoo
International Classification:
H04Q 720
US Classification:
455522
Abstract:
A mobile station is transitioned between control states in a telecommunications system based on available power at the mobile station. In an embodiment, a mobile station signals the system to indicate that power available to the mobile station is less than or greater than a predetermined threshold and that timers for controlling transitions between packet data service control states are adjusted accordingly. If power is below the predetermined threshold, the time period durations of transition timers for control states that require higher mobile station power can be reduced. The mobile station will then spend less time in those control states, thereby conserving battery power.
Method And System For Operating A Cdma Cellular System Having Beamforming Antennas
A method and system for operating a CDMA cellular telecommunications system having beamforming antennas in combination with other antenna access techniques. System capacity and demand on system resources are dynamically adjusted using beamforming antennas for some mobile stations, and other antenna access techniques for other mobile stations. Forward link channels on the beamforming and non-beamforming antennas are dynamically allocated among mobile stations depending upon resources available and the type of channel required by each mobile station. Forward link channels requiring a higher data rate, above a predetermined threshold, may be assigned to channels transmitted on beamformed antennas. In an embodiment of the invention, the cellular system includes beamformed and non-beamforming antennas.

Saturday rewind: Recapping all the NCAA tournament action
BYU 89, Gonzaga 67: Jimmer Fredette was his usual self, scoring 34 points and dishing out six assists to boost the Cougars to a comfortable victory in Denver. Steven Gray and Elias Harris led Gonzaga with 16 points apiece, but the Bulldogs simply had no answer for BYU, which shot 52% from the field and 50% from three-point range.

Amazingly, Jimmer didn't score until draining a 3 with 11:31 left in the first half. Demetri Goodson, 6-foot guard. David Stockton, 5-11 guard. Steven Gray, 6-foot-5 guard. Mike Hart, six-foot-six guard. Victims all.
We wanted to limit his threes . . ., said Gonzaga center Robert Sacre, who scored 17 points while guard Steven Gray and forward Elias Harris each had 18 for the Zags. He can shoot from anywhere on the court.
