Rocky planet found orbiting Earth’s neighbouring star
Professor Steven Vogt of UC Santa Cruz said, Barnards star is among the nearby red dwarfs that represents an ideal target to search for exoplanets that could someday actually be reached by future interstellar spacecraft.

Robot telescope at Lick Observatory finds distant planets
The telescope, known as the APF, constantly scans the skies for stars with planets around them. It was was designed by Steven Vogt of UC Santa Cruz, who installed its innovative spectroscope at the Lick Observatory five years ago, but it has only been operating robotically for the past 15 months.
astronomers and students from eight of the 10 UC campuses as well as the UC-managed Department of Energy labs. Most of the first 100 planets orbiting other stars were discovered at Lick using a forefront instrument designed by UC Santa Cruz astronomer Steven Vogt that was the best of its kind at the time.
