Abstract:
Laminates include a thermoplastic substrate layer, a clear coat layer, and a tie layer. The tie layer most preferably includes an adhesive-enhancing effective amount of a thermoplastic reactive terpolymer of ethylene-methyl acrylate-glycidyl methacrylate (E-MA-GMA) which adhesively bonds the substrate and clear coat layers one to another. Most preferably, the tie layer is a blend of E-MA-GMA and a tackifier (e. g. , a C6-C8 cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon resin). The laminate may be employed to manufacture a variety of shaped articles, most preferably automotive trim components.
Composite Laminate Structures Especially Useful For Automotive Trim Components, And Methods And Tie Layers Employed To Make The Same
Laminates include a thermoplastic substrate layer, a clear coat layer, and a tie layer between the substrate and clear coat layers. The tie layer most preferably includes a first layer adjacent the thermoplastic substrate layer which is comprised of a polyolefin, and a second layer adjacent to the clear coat layer which is comprised of a polyamide. Most preferably, the substrate layer is TPO and the clear coat layer is PVF. The laminates may be employed to manufacture a variety of shaped articles, most preferably automotive trim components.
Composite Laminate Structures Especially Useful For Automotive Trim Components, And Methods And Tie Layers Employed To Make The Same
Laminates include a thermoplastic substrate layer, a clear coat layer, and a tie layer. The tie layer most preferably includes an adhesive-enhancing effective amount of a maleic anhydride grafted styrenic block copolymer which adhesively bonds the substrate and clear coat layers one to another. Advantageously, the tie layer includes a blend of the styrenic block copolymer and a diamine, especially 2-methylpentamethylenediamine. The laminate may be employed to manufacture a variety of shaped articles, most preferably automotive trim components.
Composite Laminate Structures Especially Useful For Automotive Trim Components, And Methods And Tie Layers Employed To Make The Same
Laminates include a thermoplastic substrate layer, a clear coat layer, and a tie layer. The tie layer most preferably includes an adhesive-enhancing effective amount of a branched or linear styrenic block copolymer which adhesively bonds the substrate and clear coat layers one to another. Advantageously, the tie layer includes a blend of the styrenic block copolymer and a tackifier resin, preferably a terpene resin. The laminate may be employed to manufacture a variety of shaped articles, most preferably automotive trim components.

Abstract:
Described is a radiation sensitive imaging film containing a heat fixable radiation sensitive element, e. g. , a diacetylene, of the formula: R--C. tbd. C--C. tbd. C--R', where R and R' are, e. g. , both --CH. sub. 2 --O--CONH--(CH. sub. 2). sub. 5 CH. sub. 3. After exposure to X-radiation during diagnostic or X-ray therapy, the resulting image can be permanently dry fixed by a short heating step and then stored for a long period. Processes for making the film, new binder-convertor systems, and a device incorporating the film are described as well as other imaging, diagnostic and therapeutic methods utilizing the film in high energy radiation applications in the health care field.

Abstract:
There is disclosed a process of etching the surface of polymeric materials made of polymers having at least one oxidatively degradable functionality which comprises treating said surface with a solution of at least one member of the etchant group consisting of nitronium, nitrosonium ions and complexes thereof, in a solvent containing less than 40% by weight of water and nitroacidium ions and complexes thereof. The process further comprises use of cosolvents and swellants. It also includes pre and post etching steps directed to the preparation of the surface for etching and removal of the etchant respectively.
