Abstract:

A method for making a microstructure includes: providing a film () on a release liner (); feeding the film through a cutting plotter (); cutting the film with a knife blade () of the cutting plotter to form a microstructure pattern; peeling the microstructure pattern from the release liner; and transferring the microstructure pattern to a substrate (). The cutting plotter for making microstructures includes a knife head with a knife blade disposed adjacent a feed mechanism (), a motor () and control system coupled to the knife head for selectively moving the knife head in relation to the film, and the control system and the knife head having an addressable positioning resolution less than approximately 10 μm.

Abstract:

A device and method is described for electronic human prosthetics, and specifically a skull- and/or spine implantable bi-directional neural-communication/brain-machine interface (BBMI) device where the input, output and on-board computing are combined into a single unit to form a compact neuro-prosthetics device. This invention is also directed to a fully implantable wireless spinal electronic recording and stimulation system using the BBMI in a human. The bi-directional devices (BBMIs) communicate with other bi-directional brain-machine interface devices (BBMI) and/or with external controllers wirelessly. The compact implantable stimulator has ultrasonic secondary battery charging system. One or more BBMI can be wirelessly connected so that a closed loop of BBMIs, or a BBMI and an external controller, can wirelessly send trigger pulses to this fully implanted stimulator over the spinal cord.

Abstract:

A capsular ring includes substantially circular anterior and posterior surfaces each defining a central void of the capsular ring, at least a portion of the anterior and posterior surfaces being substantially flat. The capsular ring further includes an exterior surface extending around the circumference of the capsular ring between the anterior surface and the posterior surface, wherein there is a sharp transition between the exterior surface and both the anterior surface and the posterior surface. The capsular ring further includes a plurality of orifices spaced circumferentially around the exterior surface and a plurality of haptics spaced circumferentially around the exterior surface and extending outwardly from the capsular ring; each of the plurality of haptics being configured, upon insertion of the capsular ring into a capsular bag of a patient's eye, to engage an equatorial region of the capsular bag of the patient's eye.
