Abstract:

This disclosure relates to a method which involves the steps of: (a) providing an aqueous solution comprising a protein and a polyalkoxy fatty acyl surfactant of general formula Iwherein R—C(═O) is a fatty acyl group, Ris H or a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl group, Xis S, O or NH, Xis S, O or NH, n is 0 or an integer of 1-5, Ris a polymeric group comprising polymerized units of general formula II and III(b) contacting the aqueous solution with a separation membrane, and (c) subjecting the aqueous solution to a diafiltration step and/or to an ultrafiltration step to produce a retentate product which is an aqueous solution comprising the protein, whereby the compound of formula I reduces aggregation of the protein in method steps (a)-(c) and whereby the compound of formula I passes through the separation membrane in step (c).

Provided are compositions and methods that are useful for personal care compositions. The compositions comprise (a) a cationic polymer comprising polymerized units derived from (i) 30 to 80 weight % of cationic monomers, (ii) 10 to 65 weight % of (meth)acrylamide monomers, and (iii) 0 to 30 weight % of polar non-ionic derivatives of acrylic monomers, and (b) at least one cosmetically acceptable surfactant, rheology modifier, or cosmetic active. Also provided are methods of treating hair with such compositions.

Abstract:

Provided is method of making an aqueous composition comprising (a) providing a mixer comprising a sealable volume and one or more rotors inside said sealable volume; (b) placing into said sealable volume ingredients comprising ethylcellulose polymer and fatty acid; (c) placing into said sealable volume ingredients comprising water and a water-soluble base; (d) sealing said sealable volume after said steps (b) and (c); (e) then rotating one or more of said rotors while said ingredients are at a temperature above the softening point of said ethylcellulose polymer, to produce said aqueous composition; wherein said step (e) is conducted so that 90% or less of the volume of said ingredients is uncontacted by one or more of said rotors.
