  • Filed:
    Jul 8, 1999
  • Appl. No.:
    09/349308
  • Inventors:
Linda A. Connor Sledge - Atlanta GA
Tammy L. Baum - Neenah WI
John R. Hanson - Appleton WI
Donald E. Waldroup - Roswell GA
  • Assignee:
Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc. - Neenah WI
  • International Classification:
    B32B 310
  • US Classification:
    428 43
  • Abstract:
A rolled web of centerflow material, such as paper or non-woven material includes perforation lines separating the material into individual wipes or sheets. Each perforation line comprises a varying perforation profile defined by opposite edge portions and a middle portion having generally the same bond strengths, and intermediate portions between the edge and middle portions having a different bond strength. This perforation profile is effective in reducing dispensing defects, and particularly streaming/roping defects. Alternatively, the perforation line may have stronger edge portions adjacent at lest one weaker middle portion.

  • Abstract:
Spirally wound paper products are disclosed having desirable roll firmness characteristics and softness properties. The rolled products can be made from a single ply tissue web formed according to various processes. Once formed, the tissue web is subjected to a shear-calendering device that increases the fuzz-on-edge properties of the web and preserves the bulk of the web when wound.

  • Appl. No.:
    10/025190
  • Inventors:
James L. Baggot - Menasha WI, US
Tammy L. Baum - Neenah WI, US
Paul K. Pauling - Appleton WI, US
James A. Wood - Hortonville WI, US
  • Assignee:
Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc. - Neenah WI
  • International Classification:
    D21F027/30
    B31F001/07
  • US Classification:
    162117, 162109, 162123, 162132, 428153, 428154, 156209
  • Abstract:
The present invention is generally directed to a process for hot embossing a base sheet and/or to a process for perforating and bonding multiple plies of a paper product together. The process can be used in order to apply a decorative pattern to a paper product and/or to bond multiple ply products together. In one embodiment, the process of the present invention includes feeding a previously formed single ply or multi-ply base sheet through a heated embossing nip. As the base sheet passes through the heated embossing nip, sufficient heat and pressure is imparted to cause the fibers within the sheet to begin to melt or glassinate. Upon cooling, inter-fiber bonding occurs resulting in a well-defined embossment as well as bonding between plies of a multi-ply product.

  • Filed:
    Dec 30, 2003
  • Appl. No.:
    10/748649
  • Inventors:
Clayton Charles Troxell - Appleton WI, US
Tammy Lynn Baum - Neenah WI, US
  • Assignee:
Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc. - Neenah WI
  • International Classification:

    162118, 162109, 162117, 162205, 428153, 428154, 428141
  • Abstract:
Spirally wound single-ply web products having a chemical additive applied to at least one surface exhibit desirable roll bulk characteristics and softness properties. The rolled products can be made from a single-ply tissue web formed according to various processes. Once formed, the web is subjected to a shear-calendering device that increases the Fuzz-On-Edge properties of the web and preserves the bulk of the web when wound. The shear-calendered web then has a chemical additive applied to at least one surface by a non-compressive application method helping to maintain the Fuzz-On-Edge properties of the web.
