Abstract:

A system for managing a development project for a customer includes at least one database having data, and allows the customer to select at least one selected product from at least one of the databases, and provides for viewing at least one selected product. The system allows customer to manage a project through a website and determine how various changes to the project will affect cost, time and other variables. The system can also allow customer to collaborate on a development project with installers, architects and other workers. The system allows customer to match a product to particular requirements. A kiosk system allows customer to view various products within the store, make selections through the kiosk and, potentially, match product to a particular requirement.

A system for generating a printed product includes a printer, a cutter, and a computer. Abstract:

A sign letter includes a front plate, a back plate, and a side wall sandwiched between the front and back plate. The side wall includes a plurality of cavities formed by removal of side wall material for allowing the side wall to be easily bent to the shape of the sign letter. The side wall also comprises one-piece construction and includes at least one feature integral thereto that allows joining of the side wall with either the front plate or the back plate. The sign letter is automatically formed on a router with computer instructions to cut the front plate, the back plate and the side wall and to remove unnecessary material therefrom. The sign letter also includes a lighting system for illuminating the sign letter.

Abstract:

A method of retransferring print media onto a substrate material includes providing a generally continuous sheet of pigmented foil, and a generally continuous sheet of retransfer print media. A portion of the pigmented foil is contacted with a portion of the retransfer print media. A reverse resin image is thermally printed onto the retransfer print media by selectively heating the portion of the pigmented foil in contact with the portion of the retransfer print media. The reverse resin image is placed over a substrate. The reverse resin image is thermally transferred from the retransfer print media to the substrate so as to form a forward image on the substrate.

Abstract:

A donor web for use in a thermal transfer printer comprises a foil having a transfer side and a non-transfer side. A layer of thermal transfer material is disposed on the transfer side of the foil material. Indicia is ink-jetted to the foil. The indicia includes information pertaining to at least one of the length of used foil and the length of unused foil so that an operator can determine whether there is enough foil left for a printing operation. Preferably, the indicia is disposed on the non-transfer side and at a longitudinal edge portion of the foil in order to not affect or otherwise damage the printing portion of the foil. Also, the indicia is preferably white or black ink in order to be clearly visible against various colors of the thermal transfer material. The indicia can also be disposed on a receiver web.

Abstract:

Methods and apparatuses for manufacturing a composite part are provided. One method includes cutting a material into a plurality of pieces and marking each of the plurality of pieces of material with a unique indicium. This method also includes placing one of the pieces of material in a mold cavity, detecting a signal from the indicium on the piece of material, and verifying that the piece of material was placed in the mold cavity in the correct location based on the signal from the indicium. The placing, detecting, and verifying steps are performed for each of the plurality of pieces of material. The pieces of material are then molded together to form the composite part.

Abstract:

An ink jet printing system suited to the making of large scale graphics, such as outdoor billboards, includes an endless carrier for moving a plurality of rigid flat panels, onto which a graphic is to be printed in sections, repetitively past an ink jet printing station. At the printing station each panel moves in purely rectilinear fashion in a direction parallel to its ink drop receiving face so that such face remains essentially at a uniform spacing from the ink jet printing heads of the printing station as the printing occurs. A means for timing the operation of the ink jet heads takes into account irregularities or changes in the motion of the panels past the printing station so that the ink drops are correctly placed despite such irregularities or changes. The ink jet heads can eject relatively large drops of pigmented ink. In the case of polychromatic half-tone printing, for each pixel of a panel different colors are printed at substantially different times so that the printed ink drops of one color can dry before those of another color are printed, and a heating means may be used to enhance the drying.
