Abstract:
A scalable, multi-protocol mobile switching center in a wireless communications network provides communications control for digital and analog wireless communications devices including devices that operate according to GSM and IS-standards. The hardware and software architecture of the switching center is designed so that processing that is unique to a particular protocol is performed at the lowest possible level, and remaining processing can use generic procedures. The switching center incorporates a home location register and visitor location register that are used in conjunction with software applications to determine the protocol of mobile communications devices using the wireless communications network. The mobile switching center can be used to provide a large scale distributed wireless network or a small scale wireless network. The switching center can also be used as an adjunct to a private branch exchange to provide in-building wireless services and call control. Graphical user interfaces make the wireless communications network easy to maintain.

Abstract:
A wireless communications system, and a corresponding method, for use with an aircraft, includes airborne pico cell base stations mounted on the aircraft, the base stations capable of communication with wireless devices used by subscribers on the aircraft via using switching/transaction processing equipment located optionally on the aircraft or in the ground network with one or more ground-based networks. The system includes aircraft location equipment, in communication with the base stations, that determine the aircraft's location, including latitude, longitude, altitude, and other relevant data. Finally, the system includes a wireless communications enable/disable module that receives the aircraft's location and enables and disables wireless communications through the base stations based on the aircraft's location.

Abstract:
An over the air (OTA) Prepaid system, and a corresponding method, allows wireless connectivity when a wireless network would typically reject a user, such as when the user's profile cannot be validated. In wireless networks, unrecognized users are denied service due to the inability of the network to collect funds from the user for the services to be provided. When such a rejection scenario occurs, the OTA Prepaid system automatically (no user interaction required) initiates the process of local account allocation.

Abstract:
A method, implemented on a programmed processor, for controlling wireless communications to and from a macro wireless network includes provoking an access request from a wireless device to register the device with an intelligent network access controller for a local wireless network; locking the wireless device to the controller; determining a category of the wireless device; if the determined category is a first category, preventing access to wireless communications using the macro wireless network; and if the determined category is a second category, directing the wireless device to re-attempt access with the macro wireless network.
A method for dynamically controlling wireless communications includes establishing a targeted coverage area as an overlay to a portion of a wireless network; and at a first wireless network access controller: establishing an attraction process that compels wireless devices within the targeted coverage area to attempt to register with the first network access controller, receiving a registration signal from a wireless device, and determining an access category for the wireless device based on the received registration signal. Determining access categories includes enabling wireless communication access limitations for a first category of wireless devices, wherein the first network access controller provides to the wireless device, an appearance of operating on the wireless network; allowing limited wireless communications access for a second category of wireless devices.

Abstract:
A method for controlling wireless communication access by wireless devices to wireless communications networks includes establishing, using an intelligent network access controller, one or more targeted coverage areas overlaying portions of a wireless communications network; determining a location of a wireless device relative to a targeted coverage area; locking the wireless device to the intelligent network access controller when the wireless device is located in or near the targeted coverage area, determining an access category for the wireless device; preventing wireless communication access for a first category of wireless devices by maintaining the first category wireless devices locked to the intelligent network access controller; and allowing unlimited wireless communications for a second category of wireless devices, wherein the intelligent network access controller directs the second category wireless devices to attempt registration with the wireless communications.

Abstract:
An aircraft engine mount includes a frame fixedly joined in a gas turbine engine and a platform fixedly joined to an aircraft wing or tail pylon. A first beam is pivotally joined to the frame and the platform at first and second joints, respectively. The first beam is additionally joined to the platform at a third joint which allows longitudinal movement between the first beam and the platform at the third joint while preventing rotation of the first beam. A second beam is spaced from the first beam and is pivotally joined to the frame and platform at fourth and fifth joints, respectively, and is additionally joined to the platform at a sixth joint for allowing limited rotation of the second beam during normal operation while preventing rotation of the second beam upon a failure of the first beam to carry load.

Abstract:
An aircraft engine thrust mount includes a pair of spaced apart thrust links pivotally joined at one end to an engine first frame and at opposite ends to a lever. A platform is fixedly joined to an aircraft pylon and includes first and second spaced apart clevises and a center clevis therebetween. The center clevis is pivotally joined to a center of the lever for carrying thrust force from the first frame through both thrust links and to the platform and pylon during normal operation. A pair of pins pivotally join the thrust links to the lever and extend through apertures in the platform first and second clevises to define predetermined gaps therebetween for allowing the lever to rotate relative to the platform center clevis up to a predetermined angular rotation. In a failure mode of operation the pins contact the platform first and second clevises for transmitting thereto either tension or compression thrust loads for providing an alternate failsafe loadpath. In a preferred embodiment, the platform further includes an aft mount joined to an engine second frame spaced aft of the engine first frame.

Thomas Joseph turned 10 last month, she said, and he received a longed-for handheld video game console as a birthday gift.
