Abstract:

A valve assembly for an air conditioning system includes a liquid line port pressurized at a discharge pressure, an evaporator inlet port pressurized at a suction pressure, a sequence valve for controlling a first flow path between the liquid line port and an outlet in response to a differential between the discharge pressure and the suction pressure, and a thermostatic expansion valve that includes an actuator and an expansion valve member for controlling a second flow path between the outlet and the evaporator inlet port in response to a pressure differential across the actuator.

Abstract:

A multiple entry air intake passage for a heating and air conditioning system has a first inlet for receiving fresh air and a second inlet for receiving recirculation air, the second inlet having two distinct openings in two walls of the passage housing for increasing the flow of air into the system. An L-shaped damper door has a main portion disposed to seal a main opening of the second inlet, and an auxiliary portion disposed to seal an auxiliary opening of the second inlet. The L-shaped damper door is pivotally mounted onto the housing of the air intake passage to allow pivoting movement between the fresh air and recirculation air positions. The damper door is also slidable along the axis of the pivotal hinge, such that when a bearing surface on the damper door engages a camming ramp at the beginning of pivoting movement away from the fresh air position, the auxiliary portion of the damper door is lifted away from the auxiliary opening, thus reducing wear of the seal disposed upon peripheral portions of the damper door. The passage also includes a hinge lever mounted to the damper door, the hinge lever being suitable for connection to control means which controls movement of the damper door between fresh air and recirculation air positions.

Abstract:

A seal apparatus for a heat exchanger used in an automotive vehicle is disclosed. The seal apparatus includes a closed loop of flexible material, the loop defining four substantially orthogonal edges configured to contact the respective sides of the heat exchanger. The loop includes a sealing bead, a plurality of locating blocks disposed at predetermined locations on the loop and a strap and tie connector integrally formed with the closed loop for securing the loop onto the heat exchanger.

Abstract:

A connector for joining together a pair of fluid carrying hose members in an automotive vehicle is disclosed. The connector includes a tubular body having a first end, a second end, and a shoulder interposed therebetween, the first end including a plurality of angled barbs projecting from an outer surface thereof. The connector also includes a tubular liner press-fit into the first end of the body and a generally cylindrical, cup-shaped collar surrounding the outer surface of the first end of the body. A roll formed beadlock is formed against an interior surface of the collar to prevent axial displacement of the collar along the body of the connector. A method for making such a connector is also disclosed.

Abstract:

A leaf screen for an air intake of an HVAC system of a vehicle having a hood covering an engine compartment. The leaf screen includes a leaf screen body defining an air inlet opening covered by an integrally molded screen. A seal is integrally molded on a top surface of the leaf screen body in front of the air inlet opening. Bump-stops are integrally molded on the top surface that are engaged by an inner panel of the hood when closed. A method of making the leaf screen includes injecting a polymeric material into a mold to form a body portion. At least one elastomeric material is injected into the mold on one side of the body portion to form a seal and a plurality of bump-stops.
