  • Filed:
    Jan 8, 1993
  • Appl. No.:
    8/002371
  • Inventors:
Thomas C. Leach - Lexington KY
Marvin L. Linder - Cedar Rapids IA
  • Assignee:
Square D Company - Palatine IL
  • International Classification:
    H02G 304
  • US Classification:
    174 48
  • Abstract:
The present invention provides a wireway assembly for mounting to the housing wall of an electrical distribution device to enclose and protect electrical wiring therein. Generally rectangular, u-shaped channels have at least one aperture positioned in the channel wall to overlap the aperture of an adjacent channel to define a wireway through which the electrical wiring extends from the bight portion of one channel to the bight portion of the adjacent channel. An interlocking means manually attaches and detaches each channel with an adjacent channel and with the housing wall. The present invention also includes a method of safely protecting electrical wiring extending across a housing wall of an electrical distribution device. The method includes the step of interlocking a plurality of u-shaped channels in an abutting position to each other and the housing wall.
  • Ground Fault Module Conductors And Base Therefor

  • US Patent:
    54464315, Aug 29, 1995
  • Filed:
    Apr 28, 1994
  • Appl. No.:
    8/234335
  • Inventors:
Thomas C. Leach - Lexington KY
Duane L. Turner - Cedar Rapids IA
Darryl Carter - Cedar Rapids IA
  • Assignee:
Square D Company - Palatine IL
  • International Classification:
    H01H 7300
  • US Classification:
    335 18
  • Abstract:
A ground fault module is provided for protecting a circuit interrupter connected between the load and line terminals of a phase and neutral power line. The module includes a sensor for detecting a current imbalance between the phase and neutral power lines. A phase conductor having a rigid, elongated body made of solid, electrically-conducting material with a first and second end is adapted for connection to the load and line phase power line. A neutral conductor having a rigid, elongated body made of solid, electrically-conducting material with a first and second end is adapted for connection to the load and line neutral power line. Preferably, terminals are used to clamp the ends of the phase and neutral conductors to the load power line and load neutral line. The phase and neutral conductor are operatively connected to the sensor. The present invention also provides a housing assembly for a ground fault circuit interrupter which includes a base made of electrically insulating material with a plurality of cavities for retaining the ground fault module and terminals therein.
  • Non-Linear Spring For Circuit Interrupters

    view source
  • US Patent:
    53591615, Oct 25, 1994
  • Filed:
    Jan 8, 1993
  • Appl. No.:
    8/002009
  • Inventors:
Thomas C. Leach - Lexington KY
Steven A. DeCook - Marion IA
  • Assignee:
Square D Company - Palatine IL

The invention provides a spring exerting a non-linear force between a contact carrier and a contact blade in a circuit interrupter. The inventive spring includes at least one elongated cantilever. The length of the cantilever has the shape of an arch made with a non-uniform angle and is formed from an elastic material. The cantilever is supported at one end against the carrier with the length of the cantilever positioned parallel to the carrier and the opposite end of the cantilever abutting the contact blade so that the carrier supports more of the length of the cantilever as the displacement between the carrier and the contact blade decreases. The invention also includes a method of operating a circuit interrupter by non-uniformly increasing the force exerted against a movable contact as it engages a stationary contact to complete a circuit.
