  • Asymmetric Synthetic Methods Based On Phase Transfer Catalysis

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20020115896, Aug 22, 2002
  • Filed:
    Jul 10, 2001
  • Appl. No.:
    09/902446
  • Inventors:
Thomas Pochapsky - Arlington MA, US
Christine Hofstetter - Fremont CA, US
  • International Classification:
    C07C017/08
    B01J031/00
  • US Classification:
    570/231000, 502/162000
  • Abstract:
One aspect of the present invention relates to methods of asymmetric synthesis, e.g., asymmetric hydride reductions of carbonyl groups, using a chiral, non-racemic phase transfer catalyst, a helper nucleophile, and a sterically bulky reagent nucleophile, e.g., an alkoxyhydride derived from a sacrificial ketone and a hydride reagent. Moreover, the sterically bulky reagent nucleophile may be generated in situ or prepared in a prior step. Another aspect of the present invention relates to chiral non-racemic phase transfer catalysts, and their use in the subject methods.
  • Compositions For Treating And/Or Preventing Diseases Characterized By The Presence Of Metal Ions

  • US Patent:
    20090203644, Aug 13, 2009
  • Filed:
    Oct 24, 2005
  • Appl. No.:
    11/665793
  • Inventors:
Orrie Friedman - Brookline MA, US
Thomas C. Pochapsky - Arlington MA, US
Julie Yu Wei - Woburn MA, US
  • Assignee:
    GrenPharma LLC - Waltham MA
  • International Classification:
    A61K 31/695
    A61P 25/28
  • US Classification:
    514 63
  • Abstract:
The present invention generally relates to the treatment and/or prevention of Alzheimer's disease, other neurodegenerative diseases, and/or diseases characterized by the presence of certain metal ions, by using certain compositions including silicon-amino compounds. In some cases, a silicon-amino compound of the invention may be bidentate, tridentate, or otherwise polydentate, and in certain instances, the silicon-amino compound, or a portion thereof, may sequester aluminum or other ions, for example, by electrostatically binding the ions. Further aspects of the invention relate to methods of making and using such compositions of the invention, as well as articles and kits associated with the compositions.
