Abstract:

An electronic imaging system and method are provided that include an image capturing component, such as a digital camera, an image rendering component, such as a printer, digital projector, video screen, etc. , each of which requires an intelligence circuit for operation, and an intelligence module detachably connectable to either of the imaging components for providing the required control circuit. The intelligence module includes a microprocessor and memory, and each of the image capturing and rendering components of the system includes a memory for storing operating instructions. The intelligence module downloads the operating instructions of the particular imaging component it is connected to in order to operate the same. The use of a single control module to operate a broad spectrum of digital imaging components advantageously simplifies the circuitry of the components, reduces manufacturing costs, and enhances reliability by minimizing processing steps and circuit interfaces.

Abstract:

A method of operating an electronic imaging system ( ) as a distributed processor network is provided for a system that includes multiple imaging components such as digital cameras ( ), printers ( ), etc. , wherein each component is connected to an intelligence module ( ) having a microcontroller ( ) and memory ( ). In the method, the intelligence modules ( ) are interconnected by way of a data interface ( ) to form a system network. Next, different image processing steps are assigned to different ones of the intelligence modules ( ). Image data entered and stored within the imaging system ( ) is divided into a plurality of data groups, each of which preferably corresponds to a portion of an image. Finally, the data groups are serially entered through each of the intelligence modules ( ) such that a specific sequence of image processing steps are conducted on each data group until the processing of a specific image is completed. The method efficiently utilizes all the microcontroller capability present in the network intelligence modules ( ), thereby minimizing the processing time required to render images.

A method and apparatus for preparing a Variable Data Print job for printing, having a plurality of documents that are to be printed wherein, each of the documents are defined by variant elements related to content, layout and product intent. Groups are created and defined by a commonality of variants within the document relating to layout and product intent. At least one parameter that relates to the variants is used as a selection criteria to form a plurality of sub-groups. The sub-groups are then arranged for printing according to the form of selection criteria.

Abstract:

A method and structure for automatically preparing a scatter proof of a personalized print job that analyzes a personalized print job file to identify recurring content elements, extracts the recurring content elements, and arranges the recurring content elements to generate a scatter proof print image. The method for extracting selects a subset of the recurring content elements to be extracted and arranged on the scatter proof print image. The method further generates meta data associated with the personalized print job that indicates which content elements are the recurring content elements. The meta data is contained within the personalized print job. The method provides user input to determine which of the recurring content elements will be included in the subset. The user input includes information as to data type, object complexity, object predominance, and frequency of object occurrence.
