Abstract:
An electrochemical anode is formed using friction stir welded (FSW) joints. A FSW joint may be formed between the bus bar and anode sheet or the lead encapsulation and anode sheet. The FSW joints may also comprise fillet and butt joints. FSW joints may also be utilized to seal the ends of the electrochemical anodes to prevent corrosion.
Electrodes Made Using Surfacing Technique And Method Of Manufacturing The Same
An electrode is formed using a sanding mechanism to condition the surface of the electrode for electrochemical purposes. Hazardous particles emitted during sanding are captured using jetted liquid, and may be recycled for later use. The sanded surface provides increased electrode lifespan and lead oxide adherence.
Process For The Separation Of Materials From Recycled Electrochemical Cells And Batteries
Materials in battery and electrochemical cells are separated in a form suitable for recycling by employing froth flotation techniques. Bulk materials, such as casings, are removed from converted battery scrap and the resultant pulp is subjected to froth flotation. Froth flotation agents, including frothers, collectors and/or depressants, are used to manipulate the hydrophilic and hydrophobic nature of the materials in the scrap. Hydrophobic materials are entrained in the air bubbles of the froth and float out of the froth flotation vessel while those that are hydrophilic remain in the vessel, thereby separating battery grid materials without resort to pyrometallurgical, energy intensive or other environmentally undesirable processes.

Abstract:
An improved cryogenic refrigerator having a drive mechanism suitable for use with gap or clearance seals is disclosed. The drive mechanism includes two reciprocating members, e. g. piston and regenerator/displacer, driven by a common rotating drive shaft. The regenerator/displacer portion of the drive shaft includes a roller at one end in engagement with a rod base plate for driving a rod connected to the regenerator/displacer and a spring for returning the regenerator/displacer simultaneously with the withdrawal of the drive shaft. The piston portion of the drive shaft is connected to a first end of a hollow body. The second end of the hollow body which is opposite the first end has the piston rigidly affixed thereto. The hollow body has a portion adjacent the first end supported by a guide whereby the piston is substantially isolated from side force loads during reciprocation.

An execution plan segment of an execution plan can be received at a control unit of a computer numerically controlled machine from a general purpose computer. The execution plan segment can define operations for causing movement of a moveable head of the computer numerically controlled machine to deliver electromagnetic energy to effect a change in a material within an interior space of the computer numerically controlled machine. The execution plan segment can include a predefined safe pausing point from which the execution plan can be restarted while minimizing a difference in appearance of a finished work-product relative to if a pause and restart are not necessary. Operations of the computer numerically controlled machine can be commenced only after determining that the execution plan segment has been received up to and including the predefined safe pausing point by the computer numerically controlled machine.
