A run of big men (Samaki Walker to Dallas, Erick Dampier to Indiana, Todd Fuller to Golden State, and Vitaly Potapenko to Cleveland) created the dream scenario for Kobe, who was taken at No. 13 by Charlotte.

Purdy: From kid to conqueror: Lakers great Kobe Bryant is sure to play one last time against the Warriors
information. Bryant wound up logging just eight minutes in that night's game, to no great impact. I barely mentioned him in my column, although I did note that he'd outscored the player whom the Warriors had selected ahead of Bryant in the first round -- center Todd Fuller. Bryant had three points.
Stunningly, Bryant was selected 13th in that draft by Charlotte, four picks after Samaki Walker and two picks after Todd Fuller. Then the Hornets traded Kobe to the Lakers for Vlade Divac, who, you may recall, did not get this kind of attention on his last run through the NBA.

Just like we saw with the 1984/1985 NBA Draft, a lot of these guys, though not great, stuck around and made an impact. The real only notable busts were Todd Fuller selected at 11th, Brian Evans at 27, Roy Rogers at 22 or Travis Knight at 29.

Warriors fans keep the optimism heading into Game 4
This is a franchise that has turned losing into an art form over the last two decades. The ghosts of Les Jepsen, Uwe Blab and Todd Fuller roam the halls of Oracle, bumping into walls and setting bad screens. It took the Warriors twenty years to get an All-Star --and even then, it was the wrong one,
