Abstract:

A color stable aqueous solution containing a relatively high concentration of sodium o-phenylphenate is described where stabilizing components include an oxygen scavenger and a free radical scavenger. The aqueous solutions of NaOPP prepared according to the present invention exhibit an absorbance at 400 nanometers of at most one-half the absorbance exhibited by untreated solutions after incubation for 72 hours at 44Â C. and 4 hours under ultraviolet light. The aqueous solution is useful as a concentrate that can be diluted to a desirable antimicrobial concentration level prior to application.

Anhydrous, liquid antimicrobial compositions comprising quaternaries 1-(benzyl)-3,5,7-triaza-1-azoniaadamantane chloride, 1-(3-chloroallyl)-3,5,7-triaza-1-azoniaadamantane chloride and the cis- and cis/trans-isomers thereof, 1-(-(2-xylyl))-3,5,7-triaza-1-azoniaadamantane chloride and methyl 1-(3,5,7-triaza-1-azoniaadamantane chloride) acetate in admixture with an anhydrous carrier liquid and a thixotropic material are substantially stable to color changes, physical changes and/or chemical changes while under conventional storage conditions for extended time periods.
