Abstract:

A system and method for allocating service provider network resources for supporting dispatch multi-party calls is disclosed. In an embodiment of a method of the present invention, the method includes receiving a requirement at the service provider network for supporting a dispatch multi-party call having a projected number of participants. An amount of network resources required to support the projected number of participants is determined. A portion of the amount of network resources required to support the projected number of participants in the dispatch multi-party call is dedicated to the dispatch multi-party call in the service provider network. In an embodiment of a system of the present invention, the system includes a media server having resources for supporting a dispatch multi-party call having a projected number of participants in a service provider network. A resource manager is coupled to the media server and determines an amount of media server resources required to support the projected number of participants and dedicates a portion of the amount of media resources required to support the projected number of participants in the media server.

Abstract:

In an embodiment of a method of the present invention, the method includes the acts of establishing a dispatch multi-party call between a set of communication devices and establishing a sidebar communication between a subset of the set of communication devices. The set of communication devices participate in the dispatch multi-party call and only the subset of communication devices participate in the sidebar communication. In an embodiment of a system of the present invention, the system includes a dispatch network and a set of communication devices in communication with the dispatch network. The dispatch network establishes a dispatch multi-party call between the set of communication devices and a sidebar communication between a subset of the set of communication devices, wherein the set of communication devices participate in the dispatch multi-party call and only the subset of communication devices participate in the sidebar communication.

Abstract:

A system and method for priority dispatch communications are provided. Priority access to the communication network is provided. Additionally, barge-in for active dispatch communications in a publicly-accessible network are provided. When the user is in an active dispatch communication with another communication station, and a dispatch communication request from a second communication station is received, it is determined whether a priority value of the second communication station is higher than a priority value assigned to the user or the other communication station. When the priority value for the second communication station is higher, the dispatch communication between the user and the other communication station is suspended, and a dispatch communication is established between the user and the second communication station.

Abstract:

Systems and methods for creating temporary dispatch talk groups are provided. A console receives a request to create a temporary dispatch talk group. The temporary dispatch talk group includes at least two existing talk groups. The console accesses a group database in a publicly-accessible wireless network. The temporary dispatch talk group is created in the group database, along with an identification of the lifetime of the temporary dispatch talk group. A temporary dispatch talk group identifier is provided to at least one member of the temporary dispatch talk group. A talk group call for the temporary dispatch talk group can then be initiated using the temporary dispatch talk group identifier.

Systems and methods for monitoring dispatch communications are provided. A console receives signaling and/or media streams for two or more dispatch talk groups. The console alternatively outputs the two or more media streams. In response to a suspension command, the console will continue to output the current media stream, until a suspension cancel command has been received. The console will skip to a next media stream, out of a group of media streams, in response to receipt of a next media stream command.

Abstract:

A system and method of conducting a dispatch multi-party communication session is disclosed. In accordance with an embodiment of a method of the present invention, the method includes establishing a dispatch multi-party communication session in a dispatch network and identifying the dispatch multi-party communication session to a subscriber of the dispatch network. A join request is received at the dispatch network from the subscriber in response to identifying the dispatch multi-party communication session and the subscriber is joined to the session in response to the received join request. In accordance with an embodiment of a system of the present invention, the system includes a dispatch network wherein the network establishes a dispatch multi-party communication session and identifies the dispatch multi-party communication session to a subscriber of the dispatch network. The dispatch network joins the subscriber to the dispatch multi-party communication session in response to a join request received at the dispatch network from the subscriber.
