Abstract:

A method to retrieve data in a information processing unit. The method comprises: creating a pointer into a database based on a category for data to be retrieved, determining if an application running on the information processing unit is running in an online mode where the information processing unit is coupled to a database server or if the application is running in an offline mode where the information processing unit is not coupled to the database server; and retrieving at least part of the data using the pointer to the database when the application is running in an online mode. In accordance with another aspect of the invention, a computer readable medium can include instructions to program data processing apparatus to carry out the above method.

Abstract:

In an E-commerce method for selling digital content over the Internet an FTP-like protocol is provided to carry out the delivery (download) of a purchased digital content item from a server computer to a client computer operated by the purchaser. The FTP-like communication protocol provides for error recovery during the download that does not require restarting the download from the beginning. After the download is completed the integrity of the downloaded file is checked. And the result of the check is communicated to the server which records that the digital content item has been successfully delivered to the purchaser.

Abstract:

A method for mapping a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) interface to a Directory Assistance (DA) system can comprise the following steps. First, LDAP compatible search arguments for searching an LDAP database can be extracted from an LDAP request. Second, the LDAP compatible search arguments can be converted to search arguments compatible with a DA system database. Third, the DA system database can be queried using the converted search arguments. Fourth, a result set of listings from the DA system database can be received in response to the query. Finally, the result set can be converted to a result set compatible with LDAP. Preferably, each of the five steps can be performed in a plug-in to the LDAP server. Additionally, the method can include the step of receiving the LDAP request from an LDAP client. Moreover, the method can include the step of receiving the LDAP request in an LDAP server.

Abstract:

A system for multicasting a data stream transmits portable child hosts to client computers requesting to receive the multicast. The child hosts are capable of receiving the multicast data stream and also transmitting the data stream to other clients which subsequently request reception of the multicast data stream. Methods for managing the network to minimize the bandwidth load on participating computers, and to reconfigure the network when clients join or leave the network are also disclosed. According to another aspect of the invention a system and computer readable medium is disclosed for carrying out the above method.

An application execution environment for an intelligent network, having a protocol layer, application layer and service logic layer. The application execution environment includes a service logic execution environment (SLEE) in the service logic layer. Notably, the SLEE can be a JAIN-compliant SLEE. The SLEE can include an event routing bus for routing events between service components in the service logic layer and client components in the protocol layer and application layer. The application execution environment also can include at least one client component in the protocol layer, wherein the at least one client component is communicatively linked to the SLEE through a connector/wrapper interface. Finally, the application execution environment can include at least one telephony service component executing in the SLEE, wherein the telephony component can be configured to communicate with client components in the protocol layer and other service components in the service logic layer through the event routing bus in the SLEE.
