Abstract:

A DDS circuit arranged to provide a selectable spread spectrum based output clock signal is described. The synthesizer includes a phase accumulator circuit, a reference clock source coupled to the phase accumulator circuit arranged to provide a reference clock signal, a frequency shifter unit coupled to the phase accumulator, a nominal phase source coupled to the phase accumulator coupled to the frequency shifter unit arranged to provide a nominal phase signal, and a modulated phase source coupled to the frequency shifter unit arranged to provide a modulation signal. The frequency shifter unit combines the nominal phase signal and the modulation signal to form a frequency shift signal as input to the phase accumulator which uses the frequency shift signal to sample the reference clock signal so as to produce the output clock signal having a central frequency and a frequency spread based upon the modulation signal.

Abstract:

A circuit and method for increasing the processing efficiency of texture map data requests within a 3D subunit of a computer controlled graphics display system. The 3D graphics display subsystem includes a polygon engine, a texture map engine and a pixel pipeline. The texture map engine contains a texture map data access (TDA) circuit having a cache controller with a computer readable cache memory for containing recently used texture maps stored in (u,v) coordinate space. The cache controller is limited in handling only n cache miss operations simultaneously. In one embodiment, n is 1. The TDA circuit also contains a texture map address (TMA) FIFO memory unit for storing texture map addresses associated with texture data requests that hit or missed in the cache memory unit. Since the cache controller handles up to n misses, the texture engine stalls when the (n+1). sup. th unprocessed texture request miss is encountered.

Methods and apparatus for link training and low power operation. A multi-lane high speed bus is optimized for transferring audio/visual (A/V) data at slower rates. In one embodiment, the high speed bus is configured to use a packet format structure that allows for more fluid data delivery times, thereby allowing the high speed bus to deliver A/V data at times selected to reduce power consumption. In another embodiment, the high speed bus is configured to cache link initialization data for subsequent link re-initialization before entering a low power state. Thereafter, when the link exits the low power state, the high speed bus can skip certain portions of link initialization. Still a third embodiment of the present disclosure is directed to exemplary modifications to existing high speed bus link training and low power operation, consistent with the aforementioned principles. Variants of a Universal Serial Bus implementation are provided for illustration.
