Abstract:

Techniques for improving the manufacture and structure of leadframe chip scale packages and land grid array packages are described. One aspect of the invention pertains to a method for patterning a conductive substrate, which is utilized to form a packaged semiconductor device, wherein a metallic barrier layer and a second metallic layer are utilized as an etching resist. A method, according to another aspect of the invention pertains to covering a metallic barrier layer and second metallic layer with a etch resistant cap such that the etch resistant cap is used as a etching resist. In another aspect of the present invention, a method for treating a conductive leadframe with a CZ treatment is disclosed. In yet another aspect of the present invention, techniques relating to locking grooves within the studs of a studded leadframe are disclosed.

In a dual mode Bluetooth/wireless mobile unit, the next sleep mode Bluetooth wakeup time is rescheduled to synchronize with any upcoming idle mode wireless wakeup time that will otherwise precede the Bluetooth wakeup time. The Bluetooth clock is advanced, or other reconfiguration made to the Bluetooth module, as appropriate to prevent the scanning frequency from changing during a sleep mode Bluetooth wakeup/scanning interval commencing at the resynchronized Bluetooth wakeup time.

Abstract:

An architecture for use in controlling and managing optical functions and optical devices. A common microprocessor based control layer coordinates commands between optical devices and a user station. The control layer executes an operating system which handles data flow in the control layer. Generic commands from the user station causes the operating system to call specific subroutines the produce digital commands. These digital commands are then passed to a digital layer that interfaces with an analog layer. The analog layer is specifically developed to interface and work with a specific optical device. The analog layer thus directly controls the optical device including changing its settings based on input from the digital layer.

Abstract:

Power levels for transmitting Bluetooth paging signals are optimized by applying mapping rules dictating different power levels for different signal quality characteristics measured during an earlier, pre-paging inquiry process. A subject Bluetooth device initially receives responses to universally addressed, blind inquiry signals previously broadcast by the subject Bluetooth device. In response, the subject Bluetooth device measures signal quality characteristics of each device's response. When a Bluetooth device to be paged is identified, the subject Bluetooth device applies the mapping rules to the measured signal quality characteristics for the identified device to select an appropriate power level for use in paging that Bluetooth device.

Abstract:

Methods of and apparatus for digitally controlling, with sub-sample resolution, the relative timing of the magnitude and phase paths in a polar modulator. The timing resolution is limited by the dynamic range of the system as opposed to the sample rate. The methods and apparatus of the invention use a digital filter to approximate a sub-sample time delay. Various techniques for approximating a sub-sample time delay using digital signal processing may be used to achieve the approximation. Ideally, the filter will have an all-pass magnitude response and a linear phase response. In practice, the magnitude may be low-pass and the phase may not be perfectly linear. Such deviation from the ideal response will introduce some distortion. However, this distortion may be acceptably small depending on the particular signal being processed.

Abstract:

This disclosure is directed to a communications device having a comparator that receives a signal associated with an output and produces a signal associated with a difference between a reference signal and the output signal. A loop filter is coupled to the comparator and accepts the difference signal. An oscillator is coupled to the loop filter and accepts the loop filter signal. It produces a signal with a frequency-characteristic in response. The oscillator can operate at a plurality of segments. A segment selection circuit is coupled to the oscillator. It determines which segment will be selected based upon a signal associated with an expected frequency characteristic, and outputs a signal associated with the particular segment. In response, the oscillator can then change its operational state to the particular segment. An amplification circuit is coupled to the oscillator, and produces an output signal with the particular frequency characteristic.

Abstract:

A calibration circuit is configured to provide automatic feedback calibration during a tuning cycle. Automating the calibration process reduces the engineering evaluation time and mass production test time. The calibration settings vary as a function of frequency, and the calibration circuit automatically determines the proper calibration for any frequency application. The calibration circuit enhances communication performance by comparing and computing a time difference between a reference path and a feedback path. The calibration circuit is configured as part of a phase modulation path within a modulation circuit. The calibration circuit provides for calibration without prior knowledge of the system and reduced factory test time. The calibration circuit provides numerous advantages, including, but not limited to, accurate system results for time, frequency, temperature, and process variations with each calibration, or tuning.
