Abstract:

In an N+1 protection scheme for a router in a data or telecommunications network, a processor-based protection unit has a replica device handle, corresponding to each of the N working units, stored in the protection unit's local memory. Each replica device handle is an image of the connections provided by the corresponding working unit. In one implementation, upon detection of a failure of one of the working units, the router's controller unit sends a single command to instruct the protection unit to reconfigure itself using the corresponding locally stored replica device handle to assume the routing functions of the failed working unit.

A light emitting device has a nanostructured layer with nanovoids. The nanostructured layer can be provided below and adjacent to active region or on a substrate or a template below an n-type layer for the active region, so as to reduce strain between epitaxial layers in the light emitting device. A method of manufacturing the same is provided.

Abstract:

The valve has a pair of mutually rotatable ceramic valve bodies within the bonnet that cooperate to allow a flow of water in one relative position and to block a flow of water in a second relative position. One valve body is engaged by the valve stem to rotate therewith while the second valve body is held fixed within the bonnet via radial projections that fit into recesses in the bonnet. An elastomeric ring of square cross-section is squeezed against the non-rotatable valve body by a spiral retaining ring that is positioned in a circumferential groove in the bonnet.
