A fail safe valve actuator is disclosed that is powered by an electric motor which drives through a wrap spring clutch and a centrifugal brake configured to absorb a portion of the energy released when the power fails and the valve stem is moved rapidly to its fail safe position by an actuator spring. The valve member is held in operating position by a solenoid. When power fails, a spring moves the valve stem in the other direction to move the valve member to its fail safe position. A torque limiting device is mounted adjacent the output end of a gear train to protect the gear train and the electric motor from the high torque created when the valve stem abruptly stops moving when the valve member reaches its operating position.

Abstract:
The present invention is a surface controlled subsurface safety valve (SCSSV) for use in a well, preferably a hydrocarbon producing well. The SCSSV comprises a valve body having a longitudinal bore for fluid to flow through, a bore closure assembly, a pressure balanced drive assembly, and a fail safe assembly. The bore closure assembly is positioned and normally biased to close the bore to fluid flow. The drive assembly is coupled to the bore closure assembly for driving the bore closure assembly to an open position. The fail safe assembly is positioned and configured to hold the bore closure assembly in the open position in response to a hold signal and to release the valve to return to the safe, closed position upon interruption of the hold signal.

Abstract:
An oilfield downhole cutting tool comprises a tool body that comprises a non-cutting stabilizing section. The cutting tool further comprises a plurality of cutters coupled to the tool body forward of the non-cutting stabilizing section, wherein a maximum cutting diameter defined by the cutters is less than 1. 1 times a diameter defined by the non-cutting stabilizing section. The cutting tool further comprises a cutting rate limiting component coupled to the tool body.

Abstract:
A rotary cone drill bit for forming a borehole having a one-piece bit body with a lower portion having a convex exterior surface and an upper portion adapted for connection to a drill string. The drill bit will generally rotate around a central axis of the bit body. A number of support arms are preferably attached to pockets formed in the bit body and depend therefrom. Each support arm has an inside surface with a spindle connected thereto and an outer surface. Each spindle projects generally downwardly and inwardly with respect to the longitudinal axis of the associated support arm and the central axis of the bit body. A number of cone cutter assemblies equal to the number of support arms are mounted respectively on each of the spindles. The spacing between each of the support arms along with their respective length and width dimensions are selected to enhance fluid flow between the cutter cone assemblies mounted on the respective support arms and the lower portion of the bit body. A lubricant reservoir is preferably provided in each support arm to supply lubricant to one or more bearing assemblies disposed between each cutter cone assembly and its associated spindle.

Abstract:
Provided, in one aspect, is an anchoring subassembly, a well system, and a method. The anchoring subassembly, in one aspect, includes a mandrel, and an isolation element positioned about the mandrel, the isolation element configured to move between a radially retracted state, a fully radially expanded state, and a relaxed radially expanded state. The anchoring subassembly, in one aspect, further includes a ratch latch body coupled to the isolation element, the ratch latch body configured to hold the isolation element in the fully radially expanded state, and a relief feature coupled to the ratch latch body, the relief feature configured to shear to release stored energy in the isolation element and thereby allow the isolation element to move from the fully radially expanded state to the relaxed radially expanded state.

Abstract:
A method comprising: providing the first tool piece to be disposed in a wellbore, wherein the first tool piece comprises: a first thread, wherein the first thread is disposed at a first end of the first tool piece; and a second thread, wherein the second thread is disposed at the first end of the first tool piece, and wherein the first thread and the second thread have opposing handedness; disposing an alignment ring on the first tool piece, coupling the first end of the first tool piece to a second end of the second tool piece, wherein the alignment ring is disposed between the first tool piece and the second tool piece; decoupling the first tool piece from the second tool piece; rotating the alignment ring; and coupling the first tool piece to the second tool piece after rotating the alignment ring to produce the tubular assembly.

Abstract:
A travel joint that provides fluid communication between at least two hydraulic control lines through a cavity in the travel joint. In certain embodiments, the travel joint includes a sleeve assembly, a piston assembly, and annular cavity between the piston assembly and the sleeve assembly. The sleeve assembly includes a sleeve passage configured to hydraulically couple to a hydraulic line. The piston assembly is telescopically moveable within the sleeve assembly and includes a piston passage configured to hydraulically couple to a second hydraulic line.

Abstract:
A well system having primary and secondary wellbores wherein a completion sleeve is positioned in the primary wellbore and defines a window aligned with a primary wellbore casing exit and upper and lower couplings defined on opposing axial ends of the window. An isolation sleeve is positioned within the completion sleeve and defines a helical slot. The isolation sleeve is movable between a first position, where a engagement device engages the upper coupling and the isolation sleeve occludes the window, and a second position, where the isolation sleeve is moved axially within completion sleeve to expose the window and the engagement device engages the lower coupling. A whipstock assembly includes a latch key that selectively locates and engages an inner profile of the isolation sleeve to move the isolation sleeve to the second position. An orienting key mates with the helical slot to angularly orient the whipstock assembly.
