A means and method of controlling the load turn-down in a fluidized bed combustor including a fluidized combustion bed having an independent fluidization air source. A separately fluidizable heat transfer bed surrounds the fluidized combustion bed. By independently adjusting the fluidization of the heat transfer bed, the load turn-down of the fluidized bed combustor can be accurately and efficiently controlled. In an alternative embodiment, one or more heat transfer beds are positioned in and surrounded by the combustion bed. Conduits are then positioned within the heat transfer beds to carry a circulating and heat-conducting medium therethrough.

Abstract:
An improved material separation system and method utilizing control particles of generally known physical characteristics as tracer particles through the separation process. The control particles are generally the same or similar to the materials being separated and are coated with or bonded to a fluorescing dye. The control particles are mixed with the material to be separated prior to separation. The mixture is imposed with a energy source which excites the fluorescent dye causing fluorescing emission. The fluorescing emission is detected at the output of the separation of the mixture to determine if the separation is operating efficiently and as desired.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for dynamic measurement of rates of absorption from solutions. The method has the advantage of avoiding the use of solvent normally used to establish a baseline. The method involves pre-evacuating the adsorbent contained in an adsorbent cell and thereafter rapidly contacting the adsorbent with analytical solution, all without prior exposure of adsorbent to pure solvent. The result is a sharp characteristic adsorption line.
