Abstract:

A system and method for maintaining environmental stabilization. In one embodiment, the system includes one or more controllers that communicate with air dehumidification units to control the relative humidity and temperature within a controlled facility. In another embodiment, a single vehicle environmental stabilization system includes a single vehicle unit attached to each vehicle to control relative humidity within the interior of the vehicle. In these embodiments, the system provides alert messages for out-of-range conditions and tracks and reports related maintenance status to local and remote users using an electronic network. A method of achieving environmental stabilization includes determining the ambient value of a relative humidity level at a site, determining a set of design parameters for an environmental stabilization system, selecting a preferred combination of design parameters and structural modifications, remotely controlling the system, and collecting vehicle maintenance status information using a radio frequency identification system having a portal antenna.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus for detecting and measuring mechanical movement that is directly or indirectly representative of a physical phenomenon. The method and apparatus involve the use of at least one optical fiber that defines a region of bend having a curvature, the radius of which varies in direct relation with the particular mechanical movement that is induced by the physical phenomenon. Light is introduced into one extremity of the optical fiber and propagates through the fiber where the intensity of the light emitted or radiating from the opposite extremity of the fiber is measured. Differentiation between introduced light and emitted light determines the degree of perturbance caused by the region of bend and is thus representative of the physical phenomenon that alters the radius of curvature at the region of bend.

Abstract:

A broadcast system supplies multiplexed channels to a plurality of receiving systems. The broadcast system preferably comprises a wireless digital simulcasting network. Each multiplexed channel carries multiplexed digital information signals relating to a group of programs. At least one of the receiving systems serves a plurality of living units. The multi-unit receiving system includes common equipment to perform as much of the processing of the digital information signals as is practical for the particular installation. The common equipment includes a digital receiver processing each multiplexed channel to capture a digital transport stream therefrom and a demultiplexer for separating out the digital information signals for each program from each digital transport stream. A switch routes selected information signals to individual drops or loops going to the living units. In one implementation, each digital information signal is modulated, and selected modulated signals are routed and transported over telephone wiring to terminals in the living units.

Abstract:

A high energy explosive composite which comprises (1) from about 2 to about 30 weight percent of an energetic polymer matrix f a urethane which is the reaction product of (a) a hydroxy-terminated prepolymer of the formula ##STR1## where R is --CH. sub. 2 CF(NO. sub. 2). sub. 2 or --CH. sub. 2 C(NO. sub. 2). sub. 2 CH. sub. 3 ; A is --CH. sub. 2 CH. sub. 2, --CH. sub. 2 OCH. sub. 2 --, or --CH. sub. 2 OCH. sub. 2 OCH. sub. 2 --, and n>1, and (b) a polyisocyanate which is used in an amount sufficient to supply from about 0. 8:1 to about 1. 5:1 isocyanate functional groups for each hydroxy functional group; (2) from about 8 to about 20 weight percent of an energetic plasticizer; and (3) from about 50 to about 90 weight percent of an explosive; wherein the energetic plasticizer and explosives are uniformly dispersed throughout the energetic polymer matrix.
