Abstract:

Methods of treating somatosensory disorders and modulating production of proinflammatory cytokines by administering to a subject an effective amount of a COMT modulator, ADRB2 modulator, ADRB3 modulator or combinations thereof are provided. Methods of predicting effective pharmacological therapies for a subject afflicted with a somatosensory disorder by determining a genotype of the subject with regard to a gene selected from the group consisting of COMT, ADRB2, ADRB3, and combinations thereof are further provided. Methods of determining pain responses or pain perception and predicting susceptibility of a subject to develop related disorders, such as somatosensory disorders and somatization, by determining a genotype of the subject with regard to a gene selected from the group consisting of COMT, ADRB2, ADRB3, and combinations thereof are further provided.

Abstract:

A method of combating a somatosensory disorder in a subject, comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of a composition comprising bupranolol and/or pharmaceutically acceptable derivative(s) thereof. Compositions useful for such administration are described, including salts, esters, solvates, etc. of tert-butyl[3-(2-chloro-5-methylphenoxy)-2-hydroxypropyl]amine, in which such salt, ester, solvate, etc. compound is in enantiomeric excess or homoenantiomeric in the R isomer thereof, or is formulated with racemic mixtures of the R and S stereoisomers of the salts, esters, solvates, etc. of tert-butyl[3-(2-chloro-5-methylphenoxy)-2-hydroxypropyl]amine. Combination therapy compositions of opioid receptor agonists and such compounds are also described. A method is disclosed of referential genotypic screening of candidate subjects in connection with therapeutic intervention using the compositions of the disclosure to combat the somatosensory disorder.

Abstract:

Methods, devices, control modules, and computer readable media are provided for managing acute and chronic pain in subjects. More specifically, a method is provided for reducing pain in a subject that includes delivering to the subject a series of stimuli consisting of both painful and non-painful stimuli. A portion of each of the painful and the non-painful stimuli is delivered to the subject during a systolic phase of the subject's cardiac cycle and the remaining portion of each of the painful and the non-painful stimuli is delivered during a diastolic phase of the subject's cardiac cycle.
