Abstract:

Novel compounds that either preferentially absorb into hyperproliferative tissue and absorb light efficiently at a wavelength of between about 700 and about 850 nm or act as intermediates for such absorbing compounds. More particularly, the compounds of the invention have the formula: where R , R , R , and R are independently lower alkyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms provided that at least three of R , R , R , and R are methyl; R is âOH, âOR , âNHR , aryl, or -aminoacid; R and R are independently âCOR or taken together are R and R are independently lower alkyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms; R is O-alkyl of 1 to about 12 carbon atoms, S-alkyl of 1 to about 12 carbon atoms, âO-aryl, or âO-heterocyclic ring of 5 or 6 carbon atoms; R is alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms; and R is lower alkyl of 1 to about 12 carbon atoms, aryl, or aminoalkyl of 1 to 8 carbon atoms; provided that at least one of R , R , and R is hydrophobic and together contain at least 10 carbon atoms. The invention also includes method of making and using the compounds.

An apparatus that efficiently and accurately directs or splits a non-polarized light beam input from a fiber optic into one, two, four or eight output beams wherein the light beam input is passed through a collimator, the apparatus uses non-polarizing beam splitters and the output beams are coupled to fiber optics using a lens matched to divergence of the beam to direct the beam into the fiber optic and uses an iris diaphragm attenuator to adjust the energy of the output beam prior to its entry into the fiber optic.

Abstract:

Methods and apparatus are provided for more reliably transferring operational control for various aircraft flight control surfaces from a first sub-system to a second sub-system. The present invention provides an Actuator Control Electronics (ACE) wrap-back module that monitors the output of the normal mode control module and switches control to the direct control module based upon the detection of an error condition. The switching function is controlled by a monitoring system that monitors the output from an integrated heartbeat module that emits a pre-programmed signal. The pre-programmed signal is encoded and sent over a communication bus where it is then decoded and validated by comparing the decoded signal to the expected results. Any irregularity in the heartbeat signal automatically triggers a change of control from the first flight control sub-system to the second flight control sub-system.
