Abstract:

A power production system is disclosed. The system includes a firebox, and fluid-containing heat transfer coils at the firebox sides. The heated fluid is conducted to a transducer for converting that heat into mechanical work. In the illustrated embodiment, the transducer includes a piston and cylinder arrangement. A converter is disposed adjacent the firebox to receive heat and the gaseous products of combustion from the firebox. The converter chemically converts the gaseous products of combustion into less objectionable materials.

Abstract:

A receptacle for receiving fluid such as water that is preferably placed within a cabinet supporting a sink. The receptacle is preferably positioned adjacent the bottom of the cabinet. The receptacle is preferably formed with flexible, flared sides and a frangible front portion to enable the receptacle to fit within a variety of differently sized cabinets. The receptacle can have a hole and funnel for alignment with a mating aperture in the cabinet above the toe-receiving recess of the cabinet. Thus, leaking water from the sink pipes can be directed through the aperture in the cabinet and onto the floor in front of the cabinet to bring the leak to the attention of the user of the sink. Alternatively, the receptacle can dispense with the hole in the receptacle and instead allows the leaking water to flow out the front of the cabinet to accomplish the same goal as the first embodiment Also, a cabinet and receptacle assembly can be used together to provide a device and method for receiving fluid and directing fluid from a fluid conductor to a surface in front of a cabinet.

Abstract:

In aiming a neutral particle beam cross hair sights are first lined up relative to a target, and then the beam is lined up with the cross hair sights. Blocking means is disposed in a particle beam so as to absorb, scatter and/or otherwise remove particles from the beam and thereby create a downstream shadow of predetermined size and shape in the beam. Shadow detecting means is disposed in the beam downstream of the blocking means and senses the particles and emits steering signals systematically related to the extent to which the shadow detecting means is in the shadow of the blocking means. Aligning means lines up the blocking means and the shadow means in a desired direction relative to the target. The steering signals are thus systematically related to the direction of the beam relative to the desired direction. The steering signal from the sensing means is used to direct the neutral particle beam to hit the target.

Abstract:

An electron gun for emitting a modulated electron beam. The gun includes an evacuated envelope having an output end with a photocathode positioned in the envelope and responsive to light to emit electrons. An anode is positioned between the photocathode and the output end for accelerating the electrons emitted by the photocathode. The gun further includes a source of potential interconnecting the anode and the photocathode for maintaining the anode electrostatically positive relative to the photocathode. A first laser provides a first laser beam at a first frequency illuminating the photocathode, and a second laser provides a second laser beam at a second frequency illuminating the photocathode at the same time. The first frequency differs from the second frequency by a beat frequency, whereby the photocathode provides the electron beam with the electrons spacially bunched in accordance with the beat frequency. A method of providing a modulated electron beam is also disclosed.
