Abstract:

A wireless portal system having a wireless server with an automatic client aware detection mechanism. The client aware detection mechanism includes logic for identifying client wireless devices connected to the wireless server by using particular characteristics of the client in detecting service connection requests from the client to the server. In one embodiment of the invention, the client aware detection mechanism is capable of being extended by the client to add-on client information characteristics which are not already pre-stored in the wireless server. In this way, the client detection logic of the invention is extensible to recognize new devices without requiring software version updates or complex programming tasks. An API can be used to collect extensible data sets that include custom parameters for recognizing a particular client class, such as defined header information of the client's browser, the time of day the client requests are received and the client's bandwidth.

Abstract:

A wireless portal system having a wireless server with a client aware authentication system. The client aware authentication system includes logic for automatically identifying client wireless devices connecting to the wireless server by using particular characteristics of the client in granting service connection requests from the client to the server. Depending on the client type, one or more, client-specific authentication modules are selected for the Client. In this way, the invention provides dynamic selection of authentication modules based on the Client type of an identified client. In one embodiment of the invention, the client aware authentication system includes extensible modular authentication parameters that allows the client to add-on client information characteristics which are not already pre-stored in the wireless server.

Abstract:

As the result of a keyword search, real time and social news stream Web search results are retrieved and analyzed to build a topic model of n-grams. The n-grams of the topic model are treated as ad-based keywords to determine advertisements to be displayed in conjunction with the real time Web search results. The real time Web search results and the advertisements are then be presented or displayed for user consumption or review.

A three dimensional document workspace for interacting with large numbers of document objects. A document object may be a document or a document collection. The document workspace is divided hierarchically in terms of interaction rates. A focus space is where direct interaction with a document or document collection occurs. An immediate memory space is for placing pages or books that are in use, but not currently being interacted with. A tertiary space is where many books and pages that are not in use, but which it is desirable to have ready access to. Moving document objects in the document workspace is facilitated by touch-drop and flick gestures. The touch-drop gesture addresses the problem of obscuring distant (hence smaller) document objects by presenting a visual line indicating a destination for a moved document object. Flick gestures are used to quickly move document objects within the document workspace. A user may change their view of the document workspace in order to view different portions of the workspace in more detail.
