Abstract:

FAST-1 and Smad2 or Smad3 form a complex that is specifically induced by signals generated by a TGF- superfamily member. We have shown that a domain of FAST-1 directly interacts with Smad2 or Smad3, and that this interaction is mediated by specific domains of the two interacting molecules, namely, the MH2 domain of Smad2 or Smad3 and the Smad Interaction Domain (SID) of FAST-1. This result allows the development of methods and reagents for the isolation of compounds that are involved in, and/or modulate, TGF- superfamily signalling.

Abstract:

Generation of a cylindrically polarized light beam, and in particular, a hybrid-azimuthal-radial polarization beams, called HARP modes, generated from an input linearly polarized Gaussian beam using a spun optical waveguide device is taught. The HARP modes are comprised of hybrid-azimuthal polarization (HAP) and hybrid-radial polarization (HRP) superposition modes. These beams possess a non-zero local angular momentum density that is spatially varying and a zero total angular momentum.

Embodiments of the present invention address deficiencies of the art in respect to software test automation and provide a method, system and apparatus for a reusable software testing framework. In one embodiment of the invention, an automated application test data processing system can include a reusable test automation framework. The system further can include a test task generator and a scenario generator coupled to one another and to the framework. In this regard, the test task generator can be configured to generate uniform logic for performing testing tasks, while the scenario generator can be configured to arrange testing tasks for a complete test scenario. Microfluidic, electrochemical devices are described. The microfluidic, electrochemical device comprises one or more electrode(s) on a substrate and a patterned porous, hydrophilic layer having a fluid-impermeable barrier which substantially permeates the thickness of the porous, hydrophilic layer and defines boundaries of one or more hydrophilic channels within the patterned porous, hydrophilic layer, wherein the hydrophilic channel(s) comprises a hydrophilic region which is in fluidic communication with the electrode(s). Abstract:

Self-regulating pressure source. The pressure source includes a chamber enclosing a chemical monopropellant. A moveable boss is attached to a deformable membrane sealing an air chamber, the moveable boss and air chamber being disposed within the chamber. A catalyst is disposed around the membrane so as to be covered by the boss in a retracted position so that the monopropellant is broken down by the catalyst to produce a gas. The gas pressure will increase within the chamber causing air in the air chamber to compress thereby to pull the boss into the retracted position to cover the catalyst thereby to regulate the pressure within the chamber. The self-regulating pressure source is particularly suited to power fluidic elastomeric actuators.
