A method and system for visible light communication (VLC) for use in a dimmable lighting environment is provided. The method includes transmitting data using light from at least one light source, a brightness of the light reduced below a maximum level. The method also includes compensating or accommodating for the reduced brightness of the light at a VLC circuitry to maintain communication. Abstract:
For use in a wireless communication network, a mobile station configured to determine a preamble sequence from a set of indexed preamble sequences by generating an index of the preamble sequence from a B-bit message is provided. The mobile station is configured to group the B bits of the message into n groups, each group having a substantially equal number of bits. The mobile station is also configured to generate a parity bit from each of the n groups. The mobile station is further configured to determine the index of the preamble sequence based on the n parity bits. The mobile station is still further configured to transmit the preamble sequence corresponding to the index of the preamble sequence. A base station configured to recover the B-bit message using the received signal from the mobile station is also provided.

For use in visible light communication (VLC), methods for synchronization with multiple topology support and for transmitting an extended preamble. The method for synchronization includes transmitting a two-part preamble sequence. The preamble sequence includes one or more repetitions of a fast locking pattern (FLP) configured to be used for clock synchronization, and one or more repetitions of a topology dependent pattern (TDP) configured to be used to distinguish a plurality of VLC topologies. The method for transmitting an extended preamble includes generating an extended preamble and transmitting the extended preamble during a receive or idle mode for maintaining visibility support and for better synchronization performance.

A first base station and mobile station are capable of mitigating interference resulting from communications from a second base station. The base station can determine if at least a portion of a paging slot overlaps with an available interval (AI) of the second base station in which the second base station transmits. The first base station adjusts an occurrence of the paging slot such that the paging slot overlaps and/or occurs within an unavailable interval (UAI) of the second base station wherein the base station does not transmit or transmits with limited resources. The mobile station also can determine if at least a portion of a listening slot overlaps with the AI and, using the same procedure that the first base station uses to recalculate the paging slot, recalculates the listening slot such that the listening slot overlaps and/or occurs within the UAI of the LDC mode.

The method for the MS to search for the BS in LDC mode in the wireless communication system includes obtaining LDC information of one or more BSs in LDC mode, determining the LDC patterns of the one or more BSs in LDC mode based on the LDC information, the LDC patterns comprising at least one of an Available Interval (AI), an UnAvailable Interval (UAI), a starting time of the AI, an ending time of the AI, a length of the AI, a starting time of the UAI, an ending time of the UAI, a length of the UAI, and a cycle of the LDC, searching for any of the one or more BSs in LDC mode during their respective AI, and if a BS is found, performing a follow-up operation based on the found BS.

Methods And Apparatus For Fast And Energy-Efficient Light Recovery In A Visible Light Communication (Vlc) System
A visible light communication (VLC) device is provided for use in a VLC system. The VLC device detect a trigger condition indicating a failure of a VLC link associated with first allocated resources used to communicate with a second VLC device. In response to the detection, the VLC device terminates on the first allocated resources transmission of data to the second VLC device and transmits a fast link recovery (FLR) signal using the first allocated resources. The VLC device receives a fast link recovery response (FLR RSP) signal indicating the second VLC device received the FLR signal and, in response, the VLC device resumes transmission of data to the second VLC device.
