  • Filed:
    Jun 6, 2001
  • Appl. No.:
    09/876501
  • Inventors:
Christian Peter Gotschim - St. Poelten, AT
    Yue Qiao - Longmont CO
    Jeff Wang - Longmont CO
  • Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
  • International Classification:
    A61B 500
  • US Classification:
    600300
  • Abstract:
Disclosed is method, system, and program for defining and administering a test to determine human perceptions of observable samples, such as printed text or images, sounds, motion pictures, etc. based on multiple factors. A displayable test building window includes input fields to receive input on at least one observable sample set according the multidimensional scaling experiment. Generated in a data gathering window is at least one perception input field for each observable sample set. The observer is capable of entering perception information in each input field concerning the observable samples. Observer perception input on the observable samples is received and stored. Statistical analysis is then performed on the entered perception input. A report is generated displaying the results of the multidimensional scaling calculations in the form of plots.
  • Optimized Color Ranges In Gamut Mapping

  • US Patent:
    6719392, Apr 13, 2004
  • Filed:
    Dec 20, 2001
  • Appl. No.:
    10/028376
  • Inventors:
    Yue Qiao - Longmont CO
  • Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
  • International Classification:
    B41J 2205
  • US Classification:
    347 15, 358515, 358523, 382166
  • Abstract:
A method finds the color gamut of a source device and a destination device in their device-dependent color spaces, converts each color gamut to a device-independent color space, compares the color gamut of the source device to the color gamut of the destination device in the device-independent color space, and finds an optimized intermediate color range in the device-independent color space. Then, the method maps the colors from the color gamut of the source device in the device-independent color space to the optimized intermediate color range using a first gamut-mapping algorithm, maps the colors inside the optimized intermediate color range to the color gamut of the destination device in the device-independent color using a second gamut-mapping algorithm, and converts the colors in the color gamut of the destination device in the device-independent color space back to the color gamut of the destination device in the device-dependent color space.

  • Halftone Method And Apparatus That Provides Simultaneous, Multiple Lines Per Inch Screens

    view source
  • US Patent:
    7170639, Jan 30, 2007
  • Filed:
    May 16, 2000
  • Appl. No.:
    09/571181
  • Inventors:
Danielle Kathryn Dittrich - Longmont CO, US
Joan LaVerne Mitchell - Longmont CO, US
Yue Qiao - Longmont CO, US
  • Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
  • International Classification:
    H04N 1/40
    H04N 1/405
    G06K 15/00
  • US Classification:
    358 301, 358 302, 358 306, 358 313, 358 314, 358 316, 358 32
  • Abstract:
A halftone threshold matrix includes a plurality of submatrices, wherein a first group of the plurality of submatrices has a line screen frequency different from a second group of the plurality of submatrices. The halftone method and apparatus removes the restriction that at most one pel is turned on per basic cell for the next constant input level and allows the pels in some basic cells to be turned on much sooner that the corresponding positions in other basic cells. This creates a dominant low frequency line screen simultaneously with the higher frequency line screen of the other basic cells. The present invention also allows the basic cells inside the threshold matrix to have different shapes and sizes. Thus, the cells participating in the low frequency screen could be larger than the cells generating the higher frequency screen. For example, the low frequency screen's pleasing patterns can distract the eye from noticing less pleasing patterns in the high frequency grid and vice versa.

  • US Classification:
    358 311, 358 309, 358 312
  • Abstract:
A digital halftoning technique for controlling a spot function is disclosed. A method for generating a spot for use in halftoning according to the present invention includes defining a spot function that combines two functions selected to provide a predetermined spot shape for use in a halftone cell and scaling the spot function using a scaling function that varies according to a value of a first and second spot function ordinate. Asymmetric modulation of spot functions is used to control the touching of adjacent spots, and to change the shape of the spots with the gray region.
