Abstract:

A method is provided for controlling the misordering of packets in packet delivery in radio access networks (RANs) and other packet-switched networks. In one aspect, the method involves reading header information to determine the proper sequence of arriving packets, storing at least some packets that have arrived out of order, and forwarding the stored packets in a modified order that has no more than a specified degree of misordering.

Abstract:

There is provided a system and method for providing group calling in a wireless network. More specifically, in one embodiment, there is provided a method comprising receiving a request to participate a group call from a mobile device located in a wireless service area, determining whether a threshold number of other mobile devices in the wireless service area are participating in the group call, if the threshold number of the other mobile devices are participating in the group call, designating the requesting mobile device to receive a multicast transmission of the group call, and if the threshold number of other mobile devices are not participating in the group call, designating the requesting mobile device to receive a unicast transmission of the group call.

Abstract:

The present invention provides a method of determining characteristics of access classes in a wireless communication system. In one embodiment, a method is provided for implementation in an access network of a wireless communication system. The method includes mapping, at the access network, a plurality of priority levels to a plurality of access classes. Each access class is associated with at least one parameter used by access terminals to establish a wireless communication link with the access network. The method also includes transmitting, from the access network to a first access terminal, information indicating the mapping of the plurality of priority levels to the plurality of access classes in response to receiving a request to establish a communication session between the first access terminal and the access network.

Abstract:

The present invention provides a method of providing a group paging message. One embodiment of the method includes providing a first message during a first portion of a predetermined time period. The first message includes information indicating a second portion of the predetermined time period during which at least one idle first mobile unit is to wake up and attempt to receive a second message from the base station(s). The embodiment of the method also includes providing a third message during a third portion of the predetermined time period. The third message includes information indicating the second portion of the predetermined time period during which at least one idle second mobile unit is to wake up and attempt to receive the second message. Abstract:

A method for inter-RAT idle handoff is provided by transmitting a handoff initiation signal from a cell associated with a carrier for a first Radio Access Technology (RAT) area, the cell being located in an overlap coverage area with a second RAT area and adjacent to the second RAT area. Spatial hysteresis is provided by the new triggering method to eliminate the ping-pong issue when a mobile move along the border area. The invention also reduces network resource consumption due to ping-ponging.
