Abstract:

A brewing packet is provided for use in the preparation of hot or cold beverages. The brewing packet envelops a brewing ingredient chosen according to the tastes of a beverage drinker. The packet includes a machine interpretable feature that contains encoded data capable of being read by a beverage producing device. Furthermore, the data on the packet is capable of directing the beverage producing device to employ a specific brewing operation suited for the particular brewing packet. This allows for producing the optimal beverage from the brewing ingredient. The packet may be utilized with a variety of brewing ingredients to produce a variety of beverages. Similarly, the packet may be configured to produce single or multiple servings of a beverage.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus, especially suited for computers that can execute fused multiply-add instructions, for performing a fast Fourier transform (FFT) are disclosed. Divisions by zero that create a risk of error in other methods are avoided. In a first example embodiment, a zero divisor is detected and the division circumvented by performing an alternate computation. In a second example embodiment, a zero divisor is detected replaced by a safe finite value. In a third example embodiment, two optimized FFT kernels are used, one avoiding division by a zero real part of a root of unity and one avoiding division by a zero imaginary part. In a fourth example embodiment, a first kernel computes some kernel iterations without multiplication, and a second, optimized kernel computes the remaining iterations without risk of division by zero.

Abstract:

The present invention is an eye protection device adapted to be worn by a canine. The device comprises an eye enclosure element such as a transparent plastic goggle which is adapted to rest snugly against the face of a canine. A pair of side straps extend from opposing sides of the eye enclosure element to connect to a collar adapted to be worn about the neck of the canine. The side straps are length adjustable as by hook and loop attachments, snaps or pawl mechanism and couple to the collar along a selected length of the collar thereby allowing two-dimensional adjustment of the side straps. A preferred embodiment of the invention further includes a pivot element for easily rotating the eye enclosure element away from the eyes of the canine when the invention is not needed. Alternately, the invention can include anti-lift and anti-loss straps for maintaining use of the invention when the wearing animal is using the invention in inclement conditions.

Abstract:

A cup holder is provided which is suited for attachment to a spout of a conventional beverage preparation machine so as to support a cup in a fluid-receiving orientation adjacent to such spout. The cup holder includes a base which is configured for securement to the spout, and a U-shaped cup-gripping member which includes a pair of space side walls separated by generally horizontal floor. One of the side walls extends from the base to the floor and the second side wall extends upwardly from the floor and terminates arcuately to provide a seat for a cup's lip. The arc of the second side wall is similar in shape to the side edge of a conventional lipped cup, accommodating angular placement of the cup on the second side wall during filling of the cup.

Abstract:

The beverage and condiment dispensing server is disclosed. The server consists of a support framework having a base, a cup supporting surface and sidewalls extending generally vertically therebetween. The double-wide server's base is dimensioned to receive thereon two, laterally positioned, frusto-conically tapered beverage containers, each having a manually operable spigot near its top for dispensing a beverage into a cup, and further being dimensioned to receive two, laterally positioned, removable trays for receiving and organizing condiments and the like. The sidewalls of the framework form a through opening extending from the front of the framework to the rear of the framework, providing access to the condiment trays to remove their contents and to remove and install the trays themselves, and providing a rear access for installing and removing the containers. The rear edge of the elevated, cup supporting surface is contoured to semi-circumferentially engage a tapered portion of each container installed on the base, which edge cooperates with a slidably securable lock plate extending between upper, rear edges of the side walls generally diametrically opposite the contoured edge, to securely capture the containers therebetween. The elevated cup supporting surface is equipped with absorbent, spillover containing trays at each container position.
