Abstract:
In an internal combustion engine with a motor block ( ) and a longitudinal extending anti-rotation guide ( ), which includes receiving recesses situated at apportioned spatial distances, one from the other to receive valve tappets and is affixed in a receiving groove of the motor block ( ). The guide ( ) is constructed as an injection molded component with a one-piece, molded-on, elastically expanded or deformable clip, which engages in a complementary receiving contour on the motor block ( ).

Abstract:
A biasing device for a free rocker arm in an engine valve actuating system wherein driven rocker arms are selectively engaged with the free rocker arm to provide variable valve operating characteristics. The biasing device includes interfitting, cold-formed cup-shaped members within which a compression spring is received in interference fit at one end with the body and at the other end with the plunger. In a preferred embodiment, at least two coils of the spring are in interference fit with the body to provide spring damping.

Abstract:
A switchable cam follower (1) for a valve train of an internal combustion engine, which valve train can be actuated indirectly by tappet push rods, the cam follower comprises an outer and an inner section (4,5) end for switching-off the cam follower (1) from the cam lift, the inner section (5) is pivotable relative to the outer section (4) during a valve lift phase of the cam.

Abstract:
A direct acting hydraulic tappet and a method for making same in which an oil groove and interior structure defining a weld interface are formed in a cup-shaped body by a rolling process, the body is heat treated, a web and hub structure is positioned against the weld interface and the resulting assembly is subjected to a localized, capacitive discharge welding process in the weld interface area. In accordance with the invention, the weld interface is formed to a specific shape to enhance the integrity of the weld. In accordance with a further aspect of the invention, a baffle member can be assembled to the web and hub structure prior to its positioning within the body member.

Abstract:
A switchable cam follower (1) for a valve train of an internal combustion engine, which valve train is actuated by tappet push rods, the cam follower (1) comprises an outer section (4) and an inner section (5) which are adapted to be switched off through a coupling device (22) by the lift of a loading cam, a locking device (27) associated with the coupling device (2) and cooperates with a single track on the cam, the locking device (27) prevents displacement of the coupling device (2) outside of a defined part of the base circle phase of the cam.
