Abstract:A method of message management is provided for use with a mobile communications device having core and protected memories. The mobile communications device is in communication with a radio telecommunications system comprised of authorized and unauthorized radio telecommunications system operators, each operator have a unique identification code which is associated with messages communicated therefrom. The method of message management includes the step of storing the identification code of the authorized system operator in the core memory, receiving a message with an identification code associated therewith from the radio telecommunications system, and comparing the identification code of the message with the identification code of the authorized system operator. The method further includes the step of storing the message in the protected memory only if the identification code of the message matches the identification code of the authorized system operator. An apparatus is also provided for practicing the above mentioned method.

Abstract:A method of controlling a mobile terminal allows it to search for possibly higher priority service providers in response to receiving an indication that more than the default number of service providers is available in a given service area, without dropping its current radio channel. When only the standard number of service providers is available in a given area, the mobile terminal uses standard frequency bands and corresponding radio channel allocations during scanning operations. When more than the standard number of service providers is available, the mobile terminal uses received information defining the non-standard spectrum allocation supporting the available service providers in its scanning operations. In a wireless communication system operating in accordance with TIA/EIA-136 standards, the mobile terminal may scan its current hyperband, alternate hyperband, or both the current and the alternate hyperbands (e. g. , 800 MHz and 1900 MHz hyperbands), for higher priority service providers.

Abstract:Disclosed is a method, system, and computer readable medium for completing critical write functions to a non-volatile memory (NVM) system within an electronic device upon experiencing a sudden or unexpected loss of the main power to the electronic device. A sudden loss of main external power is detected and determined if the loss of power crosses a minimum threshold level. If it does, an interrupt is generated to prevent new write requests. One embodiment uses a software interrupt and another embodiment uses a hardware interrupt. A switch over to a short term reserve internal power source occurs and the NVM write function in progress at the time of the power loss is completed. Upon completion of the NVM write operation, less critical shutdown activities can commence.

Abstract:A method for responding to a pointer received on an analog control channel pointing to a control channel belonging to a forbidden service provider includes avoiding a power-up scan and resuming camping on the analog control channel. A wireless communications mobile unit is camped on an analog control channel may receive a channel pointer to a digital control channel. If the digital control channel has acceptable received signal strength, the service provider information for that control channel is checked. If the control channel belongs to a non-forbidden service provider, the mobile unit camps on the digital control channel. If the control channel belongs to a forbidden service provider, the mobile unit returns to camping on the analog control channel without performing an intervening power-up scan. By avoiding power-up scans when the pointed-to channel belongs to a forbidden service provider, less power is consumed and users receive more consistent communications service.

Abstract:A method and intelligent roaming mobile station for emulating a pre-intelligent roaming scanning routine used by a pre-intelligent roaming mobile station. The method includes the steps of selecting a search scheme from a plurality of search scheme, and restricting an intelligent roaming scanning routine to scan only the service bands within an 800 MHZ spectrum. In response to the selected search scheme, the intelligent roaming mobile station then prioritizes at least one service band operating in the 800 MHZ spectrum into a band scan order. Thereafter, the intelligent roaming mobile station scans for a channel according to the prioritized band scan order, where the channel connects a service provider to the intelligent roaming mobile station according to the selected search scheme.
