Abstract:

An apparatus monitors performance of a power inverter to detect malfunctions. A first signal indicates the direction that electric current exists between a first voltage bus and an output terminal of the power inverter. A second signal indicates the direction that electric current exists between a second voltage bus and the output terminal. A third signal indicates the direction that electric current occurs between the output terminal and a load. Other signals designate a commanded conductivity of switches that control the current within the power inverter. A controller analyzes the values of those signals to determine whether a malfunction has occurred.

Abstract:

An apparatus and method for converting DC voltage across positive and negative DC buses to three phase AC voltages on first, second and third AC output lines, the method comprising the steps of providing first and second three phase inverters that include a first subset of inverter switches and a second subset of inverter switches, respectively, linking a first choke in series with the first three phase inverter between the positive and negative DC buses and the AC output lines, linking a second choke in series with the second three phase inverter between the positive and negative DC buses and the AC output lines and synchronously controlling the first and second inverter switch subsets so that switching of first and second inverter switch subsets is substantially synchronized among the three phases.

Abstract:

A device for conditioning power delivered to operate a motor is disclosed. The device includes a sealed housing having at least one input terminal extending through the housing and configured to receive an input power and at least one output terminal extending through the housing and configured to deliver an output power conditioned to power a motor coupled to the output terminal. The device also includes a filter inductor arranged in the housing and that has an input configured to receive the input power from the input terminal. The filter inductor output terminal has a tap that is extended through the housing to allow coupling of various external filter components, such as resistors capacitors and inductors. Accordingly, the filter inductor is configured to suppress voltage changes in the input power and deliver a filtered power to an output of the filter inductor. A transformer is included that is arranged in the housing and has an input configured to receive the filtered power from the output of the filter inductor.

Abstract:

A method for diagnosing the linkages of an inverter including a controller connected to switching devices that are between a DC input and a multi-phase output. The inverter can be diagnosed to determine whether the control signals provided to the switching devices are being properly provided to the inverter and whether the inverter is operating properly. Diagnosis of the inverter is advisable upon commissioning or after completion of a repair. The controller can provide at least one signal to the switching devices and the signal can be monitored adjacent to the switching devices to ensure that the switching devices are receiving the correct signals from the controller. The controller can provide at least one signal to the switching devices and the output of the inverter can be monitored to determine whether the inverter operates in accordance with the provided signal.

Abstract:

The control system has application to polyphase AC wound rotor motor which employ opposed parallel connected phase controlled thyristors together with series connected fixed resistors in each leg of a delta connected secondary impedance network. The line-to-line secondary terminals of the motor provide a source of polyphase variable frequency and variable amplitude AC reference signals. The variable frequency, variable voltage reference signals are converted into complementary pairs of square wave synchronization voltages. These same reference voltages are also concurrently integrated during their respective positive and negative half cycles to provide complementary pairs of constant peak amplitude, variable frequency voltages which are combined with associated ones of the aforementioned synchronization voltages to provide synchronization locks. These synchronization locks will not allow the synchronization voltages to recognize multiple sinusoidal zero crossings which appear on the original AC reference voltages due to space harmonics generated by the motor or spurous electrical noise until a time dependent on the fundamental frequency, well beyond the desired control recognized zero crossing of the fundamental waveforms. The generated synchronization voltages are additionally used for speed detection, integrator reset and gate pulse lockout.
