Abstract:
A method is provided for deriving a near-optimal fuzzy automaton for a given separation problem. The method includes the steps of: forming a first generation population () of fuzzy automata, where the first generation population of fuzzy automata includes a plurality of fuzzy automata; performing a mutation operation () on each fuzzy automaton in the first generation population of fuzzy automata; reproducing the first generation population of fuzzy automata using a survival of the fittest operation (); and applying a cross-over operator () to the reproduced first generation population of fuzzy automata, thereby yielding a next-generation population of fuzzy automata. A near-optimal fuzzy automaton is identified by evaluating the performance () of each fuzzy automaton in the next-generation population; otherwise the methodology is repeated until a near-optimal fuzzy automaton is derived for the given separation problem.

Abstract:
Detection of head disk interference is provided by monitoring a hard disk drive characteristic related to disk rotation rate. A number of characteristics can indicate HDI. These include the magnitude of decreases in rotation rate, changes in the time-derivative (time-rates of change) of rotation rate or other changes in time-profiles of rotation rate, changes in spin motor current, differences between maximum and minimum values of spin motor current, changes in the time-derivative (time-rates of change) of spin motor current or other changes in time-profiles of spin motor current or combinations or indicators thereof. These approaches to detecting HDI provide several potential advantages. Detection of HDI can be achieved relatively early in a test or other procedure, can be performed relatively rapidly, can distinguish HDI from at least some other anomalies and can indicate the location and/or magnitude of HDI occurrences.

Abstract:
A system for sensor scheduling includes a plurality of sensors operable to perform one or more tasks and a processor operable to receive one or more missions and one or more environmental conditions associated with a respective mission. Each mission may include one or more tasks to be performed by one or more of the plurality of sensors. The processor is further operable to select one or more of the plurality of sensors to perform a respective task associated with the respective mission. The processor may also schedule the respective task to be performed by the selected one or more sensors. The scheduling is based at least on a task value that is determined based on an options pricing model. The options pricing model is based at least on the importance of the respective task to the success of the respective mission and one or more scheduling demands.

Abstract:
A system for sensor tasking includes a plurality of sensors operable to perform one or more tasks and a processor. The processor may receive a mission, wherein the mission comprises one or more tasks to be performed by one or more of the plurality of sensors. The processor may also receive one or more environmental conditions associated with the mission and generate a fuzzy cognitive map. The fuzzy cognitive map includes a plurality of nodes and weighted links, wherein one or more of the plurality of nodes are associated with one or more of the environmental conditions. The processor may be further operable to select one or more of the plurality of sensors to perform each of the one or more tasks based at least on a state of the fuzzy cognitive map and schedule each of the one or more tasks to be performed by the respective selected one or more sensors.

Abstract:
A fetal health assessor and outcome predictor and monitoring system includes a system for automatically assessing fetal health and predicting fetal outcomes based on fetal and maternal data. The system includes a case-based reasoning processor for categorizing the fetus into one of a plurality of cases based on biographical data about the fetus and mother. The system also includes a transducer for converting physical conditions of the fetus and mother (e. g. characteristics based on heart rates and uterine contractions) to signals representative of the conditions. A computer processor converts the signals to a set of signal features. An assessor and predictor receives the processed signal features and assesses fetal health and predicts fetal outcome based on identified fuzzy relationships between fetal and maternal data and fetal outcomes.
