A plurality of transceivers ( ) each include a transceiver circuit ( ), and a processing system ( ) coupled to the transceiver circuit. A periodic communication cycle is divided into a plurality of frames, each frame having a predetermined interval. Each of the plurality of frames in turn is subdivided into first and second portions ( ), whereby the second portion is used by the transceivers for requesting access to a communication medium ( ). The second portion is further subdivided into a plurality of time slots, each time slot having a duration equal to or greater than a predetermined propagation delay of a signal transmitted between transceivers. Each of the transceivers is assigned to a corresponding one or more of the time slots. When transmitting a message from a selected one of the transceivers to a recipient communication device ( ), the processing system of the transceiver selected is adapted to enable the transceiver circuit to monitor transmission energy in the communication medium during a time slot immediately preceding the time slot assigned to the transceiver selected ( ), and if the energy measured is below a predetermined threshold, cause the transceiver circuit to transmit at least a portion of the message to the recipient communication device beginning at the time slot assigned to the transceiver selected ( ).

Abstract:
An SCR (122) that receives personal messages and corresponding advertisement messages, includes a receiver (304), memory (310), presentation circuit (313) and processor (308). The processor is adapted to cause the receiver to receive a personal message (402), to determine whether a corresponding advertisement message has been previously stored in the memory (404), and in the event the corresponding advertisement message is not found, cause (406, 410) the presentation circuit to present the personal message to a user of the SCR. Additionally, the processor causes the presentation circuit to present a warning (412) to the user that the SCR must receive the corresponding advertisement message within a predetermined time.
Communication Transceiver Providing Unscheduled Acknowledge Back Responses And Method Therefor
A communication transceiver (510) having a receiver (704), a controller (714) and a transmitter (710), is used for generating an unscheduled acknowledge back response. The receiver (704) receives an address and a color code identifying the cell transmitter (506) transmitting the address during a first scheduled time interval (212). The controller (714) selects, in accordance with the address received, a reserved response time slot from a predetermined number of reserved response time slots occurring during a second scheduled time interval. The transmitter (710) then transmits the unscheduled acknowledge back response during the reserved response time slot (224) selected.
