  • Apparatus For Applying Connectors To Multiconductor Flat Cable

    view source
  • US Patent:
    42814421, Aug 4, 1981
  • Filed:
    Jun 18, 1979
  • Appl. No.:
    6/049842
  • Inventors:
Robert B. Senior - Grand Haven MI
Frederick Karasinski - Grand Rapids MI
  • Assignee:
Cooper Industries, Inc. - Houston TX
  • International Classification:
    H01R 4300
  • US Classification:
    29 33M
  • Abstract:
Apparatus for applying connectors to multiconductor electrical flat cable includes a motorized cable feed mechanism for feeding predetermined lengths of cable past a power actuated cable cutter to a connector applying position. Power operated cable clamps are disposed on opposite sides of the connector applying position and are movable in the cable feeding direction to precisely locate the leading or trailing end of the cable at the connector applying position. Connector body and cover magazines are disposed adjacent to the connector applying position. A movable connector holding member includes spring biased jaws for releasably holding a connector body and cover spaced apart on opposite sides of a cable insertion slot. The connector holding member is moved from a connector loading position to the connector applying position wherein power actuated retractable rams are operable to apply a connector to a predetermined length of cable. The connector holding member may be rotated after connector parts are placed on the connector holding member to invert a connector with respect to the cable and other connectors applied to the cable.
  • Apparatus For Forming Twisted Pairs Of Conductor Wire

  • US Patent:
    39570924, May 18, 1976
  • Filed:
    Jun 30, 1975
  • Appl. No.:
    5/591580
  • Inventors:
Fred W. Loy - Whitehall MI
William J. Harms - Nunica MI
Charles W. Wojahn - Holland MI
Frederick Karasinski - Grand Rapids MI
  • Assignee:
    Gardner-Denver Company - Dallas TX
  • International Classification:
    B21F 700
  • US Classification:
    140115
  • Abstract:
Apparatus for forming twisted pairs of electrical conductor wire cut to predetermined lengths and having one wire end of a pair longitudinally offset from the adjacent end of the other wire of the pair. The apparatus includes plural wire preparation units which operate to cut predetermined lengths of wire and strip insulation from one or both ends of each wire. The wire preparation units are operable to feed prepared wires to a rotary wire carrier which includes a plurality of pairs of side by side elongated wire receiving tubes. The wire carrier is rotatably indexable from a wire receiving position to a position where a wire offsetting device comprising a fluid operated clamp and linear actuator operates to longitudinally offset one wire of a pair of wires prior to a twisting operation. The wire carrier is further indexable to a position wherein a pair of wires becomes engaged with a wire tensioning device and the adjacent ends of a pair of wires are gripped by a twisting and pulling apparatus. The twisting and pulling apparatus includes a linearly movable carriage having a pair of rotatable gripping jaws which grip adjacent ends of a pair of wires and withdraw the wires from the wire carrier tubes through the tensioning device while rotating.

  • US Patent:
    40994287, Jul 11, 1978
  • Filed:
    May 25, 1977
  • Appl. No.:
    5/800499
  • Inventors:
Robert B. Senior - Grand Haven MI
Frederick Karasinski - Grand Rapids MI
  • Assignee:
    Gardner-Denver Company - Dallas TX
  • International Classification:
    H02G 112
  • US Classification:
    81 951
  • Abstract:
Apparatus for cutting and insulation stripping of twisted conductor wire pairs comprises a wire feed mechanism for feeding predetermined lengths of twisted wire pairs into clamping mechanism including a rotatable clamp operable to untwist a predetermined portion of a wire pair. Movable cams operate to position two wires of the pair whereby dual sets of insulation cutting blades, cooperable with the cams, move in to cut preselected lengths of insulation from the trailing end of a wire pair and the leading end of the next wire pair to be formed. Wire cutting blades operate in unison with the insulation cutting blades to cut the wire pair between the respective sets of insulation cuts. Carriage mechanism is operable to move the wire clamps apart to strip the cut insulation from the respective trailing and leading ends of the wire pairs.
