Abstract:

Drug-loaded microbead compositions including a plurality of individual microbeads of a biodegradable material, a plurality of individual vesicular agents, a first therapeutic agent, and a second therapeutic agent different from the first therapeutic agent. The vesicular agents include at least one lipid bilayer surrounding a vesicular core. The first therapeutic agent is associated with the individual vesicular agents. For example, the first therapeutic agent may be contained within the individual vesicular agents or may be associated with the individual vesicular agents by ionic or non-covalent interaction. The second therapeutic agent is different from the first therapeutic agent and contained within the individual microbeads or associated with the individual microbeads through ionic or non-covalent interaction. The second therapeutic agent may or may not be associated with the individual vesicular agents. Drug-loaded biodegradable microbead compositions include microbeads of biodegradable material and a therapeutic agent associated with N the microbeads.

Abstract:

Medical devices such as stents, stent grafts, and balloon catheters include a coating layer applied over a modified exterior surface of the medical device. The modified exterior surface comprises an exterior surface of the medical device subjected to a surface modification that decreases a surface free energy of the exterior surface before application of the coating layer an exterior surface. The coating layer comprises a hydrophobic therapeutic agent and at least one additive. The modified exterior surface may affect the release kinetics of the drug from the device, the crystallinity of the drug layer, the surface morphology of the coating and particle shape, or the particle size of drug of a therapeutic layer in the coating layer. For example, the effects caused by the modified exterior surface may increase the retention time and amount of therapeutic agent in tissue.

Abstract:

Drug-loaded microbead compositions include microbeads of a water-swellable polymer material and a complex of a carrier and a therapeutic agent chemically bonded to the carrier. The complex is embedded in the polymer material. Methods for preparing the drug-loaded microbead compositions and embolization compositions include loading a therapeutic agent into a water-swellable polymer material to form microbeads, then removing water from the microbeads. Additional drug-loaded microbead compositions include microbeads of a biodegradable material, vesicular agents, a first therapeutic agent associated with the vesicular agents, and a second therapeutic agent different from the first therapeutic agent. The vesicular agents include a lipid bilayer surrounding a vesicular core. The second therapeutic agent is contained within the microbeads or associated with the microbeads through ionic or non-covalent interaction and may or may not be associated with the vesicular agents. Drug-loaded biodegradable microbead compositions include microbeads of biodegradable material and a therapeutic agent.

Abstract:

Hair coloring compositions that form a transparent microemulsion and have a desirable texture. The hair coloring compositions may include about 0.1 to about 10 wt. % of one or more oxidative dye precursors; about 0.1 to about 15 wt. % of one or more anionic surfactants chosen from acyl amino acid surfactants; about 0.1 to about 15 wt. % of one or more amphoteric surfactants; about 0.1 to about 30 wt. % of a plurality of nonionic surfactants; and water. Disclosed herein is a hair treatment composition containing a polymer selected from crosslinked copolymers of (meth)acrylic acid and (C1-C6)alkyl esters, cross-linked anionic acrylate polymers, and acrylic associative polymers; a carbomer compound; a fatty alcohol that is liquid at room temperature; a fatty substance other than the fatty alcohol that is liquid at room temperature; an anionic surfactant; an amphoteric surfactant; a basic compound; a cosmetically acceptable solvent; and optionally, a colorant compound. Also disclosed is a process for altering the color of hair involving applying onto hair, a composition comprising the hair treatment composition and an oxidizing composition.
