Abstract:

A resident application and a second application are provided in a set-top terminal to receive a TV broadcast service and network personal video recorder (NPVR) service, respectively. The resident application is suspended in favor of the second application when a user changes from a broadcast channel to an NPVR enabled channel, and vice versa. In an embodiment where a digital video recorder (DVR) set-top terminal is used, a DVR server therein provides trick mode functions (pause, rewind and fast-forward) before an NPVR session, e. g. , a Look Back session, is established. In another embodiment, during an NPVR session the DVR server plays back recorded programming content downloaded from a communications network, and provides trick mode functions as well.

A flexible shaft has its outermost layer of windings provided with a helical gap along length of the shaft. The helical gap is formed by a flexible shaft winding machine which is programmed to uniformly intermittently discontinue coiling the windings very closely in the outermost layer to thereby uniformly leave a continuous helical space along the shaft length which forms the helical gap. A smooth-bore nut has a pair of transversely disposed pins or screws extending partially thereinto for engaging the helical gap to cause the nut to travel along an unlimited length of a rotating flexible shaft which may be curved. The pins or screws are spaced to ride in the helical gap a pitch distance apart.

Abstract:

Apparatus which controllably meters dry powder from a powder supply chamber falling through a vertically disposed axial passageway interconnecting the supply chamber with a mixing chamber therebelow for forming an air-powder mixture therein for transport to a desired site. A tapered plug member is bonded to a bimorph bender comprising a piezoelectric element bonded to each face of a thin, flat, cantilevered metallic beam which is deflectable by a dc bias or driving voltage applied to the bender to cause the tapered plug to penetrate or move within the passageway, thus varying width of annular gap formed between the plug and passageway, and hence, amount of powder capable of falling therethrough. An oscillating voltage may be impressed upon the piezoelectric elements to cause the deflected beam to additionally be vibratorily displaced in accordance with the frequency of vibrations of the impressed oscillating source.

Abstract:

A sleeve member interconnects an upper and lower length of replacement casing, which lengths are associated with the vehicle speedometer and transmission respectively. The upper length is crimped into one end of the sleeve member while the lower length is slidably adjustable with the remaining portion thereof. By a series of process steps, the interconnected lengths of replacement casing will contain a replacement rotatable flexible shaft cable therein, which cable is provided with a square tipped cable fitting at each end thereof, one of which operatively engages the vehicle speedometer while the other engages the transmission. By virtue of the slidably adjustable lower casing length within the sleeve member, proper protrusion of the cable fitting square tips is insured. The adjustable length of casing may then be rigidly crimped into the sleeve member. Thus, no preformed square ends are required on the replacement cable and yet the process permits the use of replacement casing material having an inside diameter no larger than that of the original equipment casing, the latter feature providing a quietly operating aftermarket device.
