Abstract:An inwardly cambered rocker joint for a power transmission chain is disclosed. The rocker joint includes a straight pin that defines a rocking surface and engages a first chain link. The rocker joint also includes an inwardly cambered rocker that engages a second chain link and that defines a rocking surface that contacts the pin rocking surface near the ends of the rocker. The inwardly cambered rocker joint provides a stiff joint that reduces tight strand resonance and chain wash.

Abstract:A roller chain is provided with sets of links constructed of unequal pitch n order to alter the pattern of contacts between the chain and the sprocket and the resulting noise spectrum. The varying pitch lengths through the chain are achieved by varying the length of the inside links or the lengths of the outside links. Alternatively, the sizes and configurations of the rollers or bushings are varied. Configurations can include circular rollers, elliptical rollers or triangular rollers. The pattern of variation of the pitch of the links is randomized throughout the chain.

Abstract:A power transmission chain with a spring link of improved durability. The chain includes a plurality of link plates. Each of the links has a pair of pinholes. The links are interleaved and are connected by rocker joints inserted in the pinholes. Guide links are placed at the outermost sides of the inner links. A spring link with a pair of pinholes formed in it is placed between adjacent link plates. The link plate contacting parts at both ends of spring link are located outside of the link apertures. The spring links may also be placed in the chain in two different orientations.

Abstract:A chain and sprocket system includes a plurality of chains and phased or offset sprockets. The transmission system includes a random or hybrid chain with the offset sprockets. The timing system can include single or dual overhead camshafts, with phasing of the crankshaft sprockets and camshaft sprockets. The initial contacts of each chain assembly with the sprockets are phased or offset with respect to one another.
