Oil Communication Manifold For An Internal Combustion Engine
Timothy L Neal - Ortonville MI, US Joseph J Moon - Clawson MI, US
Assignee:
GM Global Technology Operations, Inc. - Detroit MI
International Classification:
F01L 1/34
US Classification:
123198F
Abstract:
A cylinder head assembly for an internal combustion engine is provided having a cylinder head adapted to contain at least one switchable valvetrain element operable to selectively deactivate at least one intake valve and at least one other switchable valvetrain element operable to selectively deactivate at least one exhaust valve. The cylinder head defines at least one feed passage operable to selectively communicate fluid pressure to the at least one switchable valvetrain element to selectively deactivate the at least one intake valve. The cylinder head defines at least one other feed passage operable to selectively communicate fluid pressure to the at least one other switchable valvetrain element to selectively deactivate the at least one exhaust valve. An oil communication manifold is mounted to the head and defines at least one communication passage operable to enable communication of fluid pressure between the at least one feed passage and the at least one other feed passage.

GM Global Technology Operations, Inc. - Detroit MI
International Classification:
F01L 9/02
US Classification:
123 9012, 123 9013, 137625
Abstract:
A switchable valvetrain system is provided having a control unit and a pressure regulator valve responsive to control signals from the control unit. A pressurized fluid source is provided in communication with the pressure regulator valve. A switchable valvetrain component having a latching mechanism and lubrication circuit in selective communication with the pressurized fluid source through the pressure regulator valve is also provided. The pressure regulator valve is operable to selectively and variably communicate fluid pressure from the pressurized fluid source to the latching mechanism and the lubrication circuit in response to control signals from the control unit. A method of operating the switchable valvetrain system is also provided.

International Classification:

US Classification:
123 37, 123 21
Abstract:
An eight-stroke engine cycle may include a first stroke forming an intake stroke and including opening an intake valve and providing a first fuel mass to the combustion chamber. The second stroke may form a first compression stroke and the third stroke may form a first expansion stroke including a first power stroke. The fourth and sixth strokes may form a second and third compression strokes and the fifth and seventh strokes may form a second and third expansion strokes. A second fuel mass may be provided to the combustion chamber during the fourth or sixth stroke. The intake valve may be in a closed position during the second and third expansion strokes and an exhaust valve in communication with the combustion chamber may be in a closed position during the second and third compression strokes. The eighth stroke may form an exhaust stroke including opening the exhaust valve.
Dual Independent Phasing System To Independently Phase The Intake And Exhaust Cam Lobes Of A Concentric Camshaft Arrangement

Schaeffler Technologies GmbH & Co. KG - Herzogenaurach
International Classification:
F01L 1/34
US Classification:
123 9017, 123 9015, 464160
Abstract:
A dual independent phasing system (DIPS) phaser assembly for coaxial camshafts having two axially stacked, thin phasing subassemblies which are each conventional vane-cell type phaser assemblies is provided. These phasers are preassembled together as a unit to make one DIPS phaser assembly. The rotor of the rear phaser is attached to the outer camshaft of the coaxial cam, and the rotor of the front phaser is attached to the inner camshaft. The radial force from the timing chain or belt is transmitted to the outer camshaft via a chain ring or pulley connected to the stator of the rear phaser. In order to provide for ease of mounting, the DIPS phaser assembly (including the front and rear phasers) is attached to the outer camshaft via mounting bolts which are passed through openings in the rotor of the front phaser in order to attach the rear phaser rotor to the outer camshaft. A central mounting bolt is used to connect the front phaser rotor to the inner camshaft. A radially stacked DIPS phaser assembly is also provided which offers further reduced axial space requirements.
Camshaft Phaser And Drive Adapter For A Concentric Camshaft

International Classification:

US Classification:

Abstract:
A camshaft adjuster for a concentric camshaft assembly of an internal combustion engine is provided. The adjuster includes a stator that is connected to the timing gear, and a rotor located within the stator having a plurality of vanes that extend into spaces created between inwardly directed projections of the stator to define chambers on each side of the vanes. Front and rear sidewalls are connected to the stator and form the front and rear walls of the chambers. An outer cover connects to the stator to the inner camshaft via a drive adapter, and the rotor is connected to the outer camshaft. Radial loads acting on the timing gear are transmitted from the stator to the rotor and into the outer camshaft. The drive adapter includes an open cylindrical body having first and second ends. The first end includes a slot or recesses in which a timing feature of the cover engages.

Abstract:
A sensor system includes a sensor and a control module. The sensor includes an electrically actuated moving member. The sensor is in fluid communication with a reservoir of a separator that separates a first fluid from a fuel. The control module selectively causes current to be supplied to the sensor to actuate the member. The control module measures the current and determines a parameter of the current. The control module identifies one of presence and absence of the first fluid in the reservoir based on the parameter.

Abstract:
A method of operating an engine in a delayed exhaust engine cycle may include opening an intake valve of the engine during a first stroke to form an intake stroke. The method may further include closing the intake valve and determining an engine operating temperature. The engine operating temperature may be compared to a predetermined temperature limit. A first fuel mass may be provided to the combustion chamber between an end portion of a second stroke and a beginning portion of a third stroke. The third stroke may form a first power stroke and the intake valve and an exhaust valve in communication with the combustion chamber may be closed during the second and third strokes. The exhaust valve may be maintained in a closed position during a fourth stroke when the engine operating temperature is less than the predetermined temperature limit.
