Bragging Rights:
Absolutely! In 2004, my pancreas, suddenly, stopped functioning. This immediately made me a labile, or "brittle", type-1 diabetic. One year later, 9 days after Katrina, mere minutes after our power and phone service resumed, I got the call for a transplant! Quite the feat, getting there...we brought a chainsaw and cleared a route to I-10, west to Baton Rouge, then flew to Minneapolis. I breezed through the the transplant and enjoyed almost 2 yrs. of blessed health and wellness. Sadly, that organ failed as well. So, I'm back on the "Pancreas List" and the struggle with uncontrollable diabetes, for some time, now. My Mom passed-away while waiting for a heart-lung transplant. So, needless to say, I'm a STRONG advocate of organ donation and urge everyone, who is able, to please sign a donor card, carry it with your I.D. and become a hero for someone in desperate need. It is truly lifesaving and life-changing for a heinously large number of people!!! "Please, don't take your organs to Heaven...Heaven knows we need them here!"
